This thread from netmums is discussing the bag. It would seem that they are too small for use as a school bag. I've never heard of them before now, but it does sound a bit gimmicky and bad value for money, but that's just me (I've got bags of beyblades, pokemon, gormiti etc in the loft and would expect this to be added to the pile).

    It's only a game

In a few weeks when he sees another item on the tv we are going to go down the same road.

But then his piggy bank will be empty. It might be a useful lesson.

As an old lady of 31 I can't see the appeal:p but I do think that if you do not allow him to buy this bag it will only delay him learning that once money is spent its spent, and probably better at 7 with £43 than at 14 with £500 (or whatever figure).

    £43  lol.
If it were one of my Kids, I would do my best to persuade him that it is too much money to spend on a bag.

I have seen the adverts on Tv for them and funnily enough my 5 year old has asked for one too (but then again he asks for most toys advertised on the TV ;)).

I think 7 is too young to be making decisions about that amount of money - I doubt he has much real understanding of the value of money at the moment.
I agree with what other posters are saying about learning at a young age, but I just feel it's a little too young to balance up the consequences properly.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.
  • I had to google it too! I am now feeling old! :rotfl:

I do think from looking at it, it does look a little bit small for carrying even books to school and the like. I can remember my brother at that age and when he ever needed to pack a bag to go anywhere it seemed to contain everything but the kitchen sink!
I do think it is a tad bit too dear, when his tastes change and he's left with a boring old bag and an empty piggy bank you'll be the one hearing complaints! ;)

And when I saw the price, £43  The "free" stuff that comes with it is rather basic! You could pick up the jotter, keyring, crayons and so on in Poundland! :rotfl:

    Let him buy it.

If he likes it and uses it, then its not a waste.

If he is bored within a week and thinks he's wasted his money, then he's learnt a valuable lesson.

My 12 year old did a similar thing at about the same age. He won't spend a penny anymore unless its something he really wants and he'll shop around for the best price too.

Both him and my 5 year old son will sell toys to buy new things. Has your son got things he could sell on eBay or at a car boot to buy the bag? My youngest wanted a Wii game so sold some old DVDs and Wii games to buy it. He's saving for a motor bike at the moment for when he's a policeman apparently.

i also had to google it seems a hell of a lot of cash for it though but if he has saved up the cash himself and really wants it im sure as others have said he will eventually realize he wasted his pocket money. to me it looks like the cheap obsessed range of bags imo

Talking of learning lessons, I think there's another couple of lessons a child could learn here too.............a lesson in the value of money and the worth of things and also in that it's not always sensible to indulge ourselves in everything we see that we fancy, whether we've got the money or not!

    Just my opinion! :D

No offense - but I see some women and their vile blingy extravagant bags and the money they spend on them and think 'what a bunch of losers'. That bag actually looks quite good for £43.

How about say that if he waits until his birthday/an important date in about 3 months time and STILL wants it, you will go halves with him on it? Then he learns patience as well.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.
