Boiler recommendations? Help!

Yes, I've got the same problem as you. I've got a 13 year old regular boiler at the moment and I am preparing for when it needs replacing. I can't get my head around whether it would be best to replace like with like or to get a system boiler. I also have a 3 bed house and know that I don't want a combi boiler.
I've looked at the link that CH (http://www.centralheating.co.uk/) gave but I can't see any advice on this, sorry if I've missed it.
if the 13 year old is the non condensing variety ..its only in its mid life..lets hope it doesn't have a crises ..and gives you another 13 years ..
13 years on the new condensing ones would see you on your second or third boiler by now
so keep your reliable boiler ..
there isn't any going back to the old type once you replace with the new fangled condensing one, they have been banned ..because of "so called" inefficiency...
my idea of efficiency is not spending money ..sasdly the govs isn't .
so hang on to your boiler ..untill lack of spares is the reason it cant be fixed.

Yes, it is a non-condensing type and having read about all the problems with condensing boilers on this site, I am planning to keep it as long as possible. I am certainly hoping that it will last another 14 years, but at the same time, I want to be prepared for when it does die so that I don't have to make a rushed decision in the middle of winter.0 -

Keep putting its model name into ebay ..and over the next couple of years, find the cheapest brand GENUINE new spares you can for it ..
you may be able to get enough spares to keep it running another 20 years ..for a pittance on ebay ....'cause all the high priced stuff on ebay, will now be for the condensing stuff.
Get your spares store them ..then when it does !!!!!! up ..your plumber wont have an excuse to say ..sorry Mame ..cant get the spares for these anymore...will have to fit one of these new fangled pieces of rubbish that will cost you dearly from now until eternity .

I don't understand. Are you suggesting methods for keeping your existing boiler operational for as long as possible?0

Mmm - OK I'm sure you didn't mean it that way but that was the way it read.Canucklehead wrote: »I leave the catty comments to those so inclined.

Yes, but obviously that isn't an option for you. Sorry to have hijacked your thread, but like you, I would still like to know whether it is better to go for a regular or a system boiler but I can't find any information on this either.0 -

Haha! made me laugh.. if you could see my Ebay watch list, I wait until they get fed up listing then make an offer. Got a brand new, later revision electronics board for £30 recently. Learnt my lesson when the last one went 5 years ago and the plumber charged a 30% mark-up for fetching it from down the road - (found out later) £165 in all + labour to plug it in. Was thinking of getting a spare fan as that that was the last bit that broke, but as the last one went for 22 years...
Should the unthinkable happen, I have work connections with Bosch so can get some sort of employees discount on them.. do they do any decent (non-combi) boilers at their top end?0 -

Good evening: a RGI, after conducting a site survey and discussing your requirements would best placed to advise on the suitability of an open vented or sealed system...this will impact on your DHW supply and any brassware (taps, shower mixers) you have installed in the property. More on this here.

Thanks. Are there brands to go for or brands to avoid?0
