Boiler recommendations? Help!

I know there are a lot of boiler posts here, but I couldn't find the answers I was looking for so forgive me for posting another.

We have a three bed house at the moment. The builders put in a combi boiler which takes a while to warm up the water and means that if someone is having a shower then we can't use the taps.

New house. New central heating. I'm confused by the options. I know I want a gas boiler and not a combi one, so it's either a regular or a system boiler and I don't really understand the difference. The latter seems to use one less cistern.

And then even if I knew whether I should be getting a regular or system boiler, I then have to pick between many seemingly similar models and then pick between many similar water tanks.

I'm sure my installer could give me some advice, but I'd like independent advice first. I'd also like to hear which are the brands to go for.

Good afternoon : here is a good place to start. Keep in mind... a boiler is only as good as it's installation and annual servicing.

Every RGI has preferred brands.. the OH fits Vaillant, Viessmann and Remeha (all 3 brands have stainless steel heat exchangers)..his decision is based on personal experience and product specific training.

I'm now swapping to Atmos boilers. Next to nothing to go wrong with them.

I shall be trying to avoid anything with a Giannoni HE fitted to it in future.

No haven't dropped Atag, I shall still keep with them as the top boiler for those who want them.

Atmos seem a lot better mid range boiler for the customer, but not for me due to the reliability of them.

I also prefer buying direct from them rather than dealing with a merchant.

The opposite.

As they have so few parts to go wrong, the customer will be better off and I will be worse off because of less call outs to fix them.

We have had our Potterton boiler for 32 years.

Of course we daren't let a gas engineer near it else they would condem it.

We had no problem in the cold winter like the new fangled condensing boilers so we don't want one of those.

It heats the cylinder in the airing cupboard and we have no problem waiting for it to heat up and having water on downstairs does not affect upstairs.

The coupler has been replaced a couple of times. It has never been serviced other than by my very practical husband. It glows a blue flame.

Yes, I've got the same problem as you. I've got a 13 year old regular boiler at the moment and I am preparing for when it needs replacing. I can't get my head around whether it would be best to replace like with like or to get a system boiler. I also have a 3 bed house and know that I don't want a combi boiler.

I've looked at the link that CH (http://www.centralheating.co.uk/) gave but I can't see any advice on this, sorry if I've missed it.
