Hello I am a silly girl - hence my username.
I'm 26 and since the age of about 18 I have been a credit card & overdraft abuser AND today, that is going to STOP.
I'm around £8k in debt and really I have little to show for it. For some reason I've always been awful with money.
I came to the realisation that not everyone is like me when one of my colleagues said 'I'm really broke this month, I even had to use my overdraft'. Err I can't remember a time I wasn't in mine!!
I know full well where I overspend - clothes, toiletries (I only use Clinique & Lauren Mercier - oops) and dinners out so I just need to STOP.
Anyway I'm waffling! I'm going to plan my meals for the day and then cancel my lovefilm & weight watchers memberships. I rarely use either! xxx :money:

Hi and welcome, Congrats on trying to get out of your OD after 8 years. I have used my OD, cleared it with loans, re-used it and got myself in a right old mess for almost 20 years
I am giving myself a CASH budget each week & desperately trying to stick to it but this forum is a huge help and the people are so friendly & supportive.
Keep posting & good luck.05/03/14 £15,980 0n 2 CCs

Thanks guys.
I'm doing EXACTLY that mummychicken. I got £30 out on Saturday and have used £1.60 to get a cereal bar & can of coke. I don't need either  But other than that slip up I haven't spent anything - horrah!!
I'm also using 2 purses one for cash and one for cards so I can leave the card one at home unless I'm getting petrol.
Also, I've made some rather flashy spreadsheets. Hopefully they'll keep me motivated!:money:LBM - 19/03/2011

Awh thank you. Leaving my purse at home is working!
Today I'm having a no spend day :money: Had oats-so-simple that I've had in my drawer for months (always went for the 15p a slice toast) and I'm having soup for lunch that I got for free from 'diet chef'. It's actually quite substantial! And tonight my boyfriend is coming over, usually we'd go for a meal or I'd go to Waitrose for something fancy but instead I'm making fish n chips (with mushy peas!) out of all the stuff already in my freezer.
So happy I've found this forum. I don't have that drowning feeling anymore. Is it sad that I'm finding being good with the pennies almost fun? :cool:LBM - 19/03/2011

HI - Welcome and Good Luck.
I too only found the forum this year buts definitely been the best thing I have ever done. Spreadsheets and keeping a notebook of 'to do', 'goals' and 'spends' has helped me no end - all good advice of this very forum.
This month is the first time in 8 - 10 years I have stayed out of my overdraft and I am hoping to keep it that way. It feels good to have tackled something of the debt.

Thanks guys!
I had a no spend day yesterday and am planning the same today apart from putting some credit on my gas card. It's an essential so I'm not counting it.
I now have ANOTHER spreadsheet listing what the old me would have spent and I'm £9 up so far - yay!
Better go to work I guess - boo hoo!
