Only have money in paypal - need to eat!

Hi,

As the title says, I have £1 in my bank account yet quite a lot in my paypal. It takes quite a few day to transfer the money to my regular bank account. Does anyone know how I can get my hands on it quicker, or alternatively any way I can buy some food with my paypal balance?

thanks so much

Do any of the supermarkets who take orders online accept paypal?

Not sure about the paypal but when you say you have no food, is that really true? Have you been through everything in the cupboards/freezer? Amazing what you can pull together when needs must. Appreciate this must be frutrating when you have money there and can't get at it but perhaps it would be easier to approach the problem from the other way round and see how you can survive without spending money.

Go through your cupboards, fridge, freezer etc. List everything you have and then out it on the Old Style Board and ask for help with meal planning.

They are FANTASTIC at making meals out of nothing :D

  • milk and more do an invoicing system which you pay monthly, so perhaps you could set that up an not have to pay immediately. I have never used but was surprised at how many basic food items they do. Ocado don't take money before delivery (so long as you have a pound in your account the payment should allow you to checkout). You just need to clear the payment as soon as you can and you can;t place anouther order with them until the money has been paid. As I say I don't recommend it but if you need food, and have got the money coming, you can just repay once the money has gone into your account.

Not sure about the paypal bit but:-

    1. Are there any friends work colleagues or family members that could loan you a tenner to get you through the next few days - it isn't that much surely there is someone who wouldn't mind helping you out?

    2. Do you have anything lying around the house you don't need anymore and could sell either privately or through a pawn shop?

    3. Do you have any active credit cards?

    4. Are there any neighbours who could let you have something from their freezer or tins from their cupboard that you can promise to repay in either food or cash in a few days?

5.Can you contact the Dept OF Social Security for a crises loan?

    6. If there isn't anything you can sell is there anything you could perhaps leave at a pawnshop as security against a cash loan and then repay them the next time you get paid. It will mean some interest though.

  • I don't know when your next Milk & More delivery might be, but you can get £10 worth of free shopping from them, so that might help you http://www.milkandmore.co.uk/OA_HTML/ibeCCtpSctDspRte.jsp?section=10580&jfn=ZGF419B6364F494ADFF4076028B3133A8C0401D761C783760BC8E9964232CF7810222C36C6B90F04D67D0F88662F244EC79A&oas=05sIAvw6NgNuK48EwFQebw..

They are very expensive though, so don't buy your normal shop from them while you wait for your paypal to get sorted out. I just did a shop and got it as close to £10 as I could - think I paid 29p! Wouldn't ever use them again though.

Right this wont help you today but for a £5 fee you can get your hands on Paypal money effectively next day. If you withdraw now im pretty sure it will be in your bank monday. Do exactly like this. Click withdraw, do not click "Transfer to bank account in the drop down menu" > Withdraw funds to your bank account even quicker.

This has a 99.9% next day success rate with HSBC in my experience but I cant vouch for other banks. And there is the £5 charge which is ofcourse a definite negative but if it means eating monday rather that having to wait til friday then its worth it imo.
  • Thanks so much everyone for taking the time to help me out.

There's some really good suggestions there, I'll have a look into what I can do.

I literally have no food anywhere in my flat, except for tinned peas, tinned green beans and frozen spinach! Oh and some bread but I need to be strategic with it lol!

Have you been through your all your pockets, bag if a female back of sofa, car seats if you're a driver. It's surprising what you can find, this is by the way for odd bits of change not a joint of beef.
Have you got a stock cube? if you could throw what you have in a pan with a stock cube & some water & make a soup.
Any friends who could help you with either a couple of quid, a couple of tins of beans & you should be ok for a couple of days.
This won't help you now but you can get a Paypal prepaid credit card I think that your balance is transferred within the day. They are changing the issuing bank at the end of the month, so I'm not sure of you can apply now & get a new card sent out after the end of the month. The old one was I think a fiver.

Also not much help for now but if you go over to the old style board there's a suggested store cupboard, to buy over a few shopping trips so that you can always make yourself something.
