Unwanted baby toilettries

Baby shampoo is great as wishing up liquid - it is just a mild soap without all the additives adults supposedly 'need'. A friend used to swear by it as an oven cleaner!0

I have a whole bag of various bits to give away - we use weleda nappy cream and bath creme and those do us just fine. Each bottle lasts for ages too, about 3-5 months of daily use each.
If you dye your hair, keep the shampoo around for mistakes - it's great at stripping out some of the unwanted dye.0 -
Please don't use them on your baby. Certain brands think we should all have our babies smelling lovely, so they add a little bit of purfume to their products, and some lovely colours to make their creams pink and pretty! babies do not need these on their skins, the chemicals will strip out their natural goodness. It's fine to wash your baby in good old plain water.
My DD1 (who's 5) is under a dermatologist at our local hospital at the moment, for her eczema. She asked what I bathed DD2 in (I keep the water as fresh as possible for both girls), I said I added a tiny drop of baby bath - with no purfume etc added, and she said I may as well be using washing up liquid if I even use 'plain' baby products.

Put it on freecycle?Man plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0

Could you use some if it on yourself if it is stuiff like shampoos and mositurisers? I use babdy lotion as a hand creme at work as I spend most of the day with plastic gloves on and it's great. Failing that - freecycle

Thank you all for your comments so far.
It's hard to know whether to use them on the baby or not as there does seem to be a lot of controversy over using them on baby's skin- I think I will put some of them away and try them one at a time once baby is over 3 months old and just see how they gets on.
Some things I may be able to use some myself- I think I've heard about using baby oil as eye makeup remover and I'll try the shampoo either as washing up liquid (thanks for the suggestion) or for my own hair.
I'm still not sure what to do with the talc (been given about 3 big bottles!) but can't see how it will 'go off' so I may be able to use in years to come as bestpud and muppet have suggested.
Thanks all x0 -
I'll have them!

You could keep them until baby is a bit older, but even then if sensitive skin runs in the family I would avoid. Many hospitals/MW's don't like you using baby wipes either for the same reason. Although you may find you need to in moderation for dealing with first poos (meconium). If your baby has dry skin as many do (all that sloshing around in amniotic fluid for so long) then the best thing for mousturisation is olive oil. Makes baby smell like a pasta dish but does the trick without causing any skin reactions.
If you really want to rid of the products then I'm sure someone will grab them on freecycle, or take to a charity shop.We Made-it-3 on 28/01/11 with birth of our gorgeous DD.0 -
Do you have a Women's Aid near you? Many women and their children leave home due to domestic violence with nothing but the clothes that they are wearing. WA usually appreciate anything that will help - I donated a pram, twin pushchair, two strollers, two cots, toys and various other baby items a few years ago. An IT tutor at the local community centre told me about WA (she did voluntary work for them) and said that many of the women need even basic items.0

I still have a 90% full bottle of baby lotion I was given as a present to celebrate DSs birth 6.5 years ago. I don't moisturise my own body, DS didn't need it. Shampoo and bubble bath 1 bottle used over a 3 year period. Talc still never used!
