If the side grooves (The sideways ones) are deeper than 1.6mm then yes IMHO it's legal.
It's not a bad question actually, because I have seen this before where the central bands tread is not to the same depth as the rest and wears away. It can also be on some tyre designs that the side - sideways grooves are also shallower (not on your tyre) than the central grooves, on that sort of tyre I would say illegal, but yours I err on the side of legal.0 -
Don't think it's legal, something about the centre 3/4 of the tyre tread must have at least 1.6 mm
Quote "The legal limit for minimum depth of the tread on your tyres is 1.6 millimetres, across the central ¾ of the tread around the complete circumference of the tyre."0 -
thanks I have searched the net but couldn't find anything specific and obviously if it is illegal I would change it straight away,BABY SOPHIE BORN 14/08/08Cross Stitch Cafe member No:37

yeah I know about the tyre depth bit but this is the pattern on the raised bits so wasn't sure if it was this or the deeper grooves that you measureBABY SOPHIE BORN 14/08/08Cross Stitch Cafe member No:37

But these two central bands aren't required to have tread, I have had plenty of tyres where there is no tread in the central bands - the 'ribs'
The central main grooves are there and above 1.6 so that's ok and the sideways tread (on the shoulders) is there +1.6 so that's ok.0 -
INn the grooves you will see little raised bits these are tyre wear limiters so if your tyre wear is above these you will be ok, but if you are still in any doubt just pop into a trye fitters and they will check it for you FOC0

If there's any doubt then get a new one, it's obviously close to the limit (or under) or you wouldn't be asking so why take the chance?Always try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!0 -
