Hi
From next month I will need internet access in France for around 6 months. I have investigated pay as you go (dongles!?) for use in europe and got myself in a right mess because I dont understand all the lingo!!
I'm almost 60 years old, trying hard to get my head around it and failing miserably!
Does anyone have an idiot's guide to finding the answer or even better does anyone have the answer - PLEASE????!!!!

Almost 60! ... you're just a young'un then ..
Can't help with your question tho'0 -
I'm coming up to 57 but even I know how to use a Search Engine!
Wikipedia has a list of broadband suppliers in France.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_in_France
Assuming you understand written French, copy and paste the company names into your search to find the cheapest price.
If on the other hand you're not o fay with froggie lingo then try this site.

Now I realise you're going to say that you want mobile broadband but often landline based (ADSL) broadband over six months will work out cheaper even if you have to sign up for a twelve month contract. That's certainly the case in the UK anyway.
If you are proposing to move to a rural area where you don't believe that ADSL will be available then have a look at this article from the Telegraph.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/advice/6050071/Rick-Maybury-on-broadband-in-rural-France.html
In the report Rick Maybury mentions: “cl! 3G" in relation to mobile broadband so I put that into my search and came up with this listing:
http://www.google.co.uk/search?client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-GB%3Aofficial&channel=s&hl=en&source=hp&biw=&bih=&q=cl%C3%A9+3G&btnG=Google+Search
I'm sure if I was to make a more comprehensive search I'd be able to find French broadband and telephone comparison sites though....0 -
Thanks for your responses, however, I think you have misunderstood!
I'm very much able to use a search engine!
As my post said, it's the LANGUAGE used by internet companies that I'm finding confusing - sorry if that was misleading ( although I though that was clear.)
I will look at the articles you so kindly included in your response.0 -
Perhaps if you told us what 'language' you do not understand (specific terms), then some assistance could be given?
Your basic options are to use a French SIM in an unlocked dongle, buy a dongle and SIM in France, or use local internet cafes or wi-fi hotspots.
Any other method (eg roaming on a UK SIM or dongle) will result in massive bills. No free lunch, and no free laptop
