in Credit cards
I currently have a Virgin card. 6.5k limit. I owe £1000 on it.
I have a co-op card with 6k debt on with its 0% soon to expire. I've just applied for an Abbey card under MBNA. They accepted but only offered £3500 limit. damn.
I called them, they offered to shift credit from my virgin card over to my new abbey card. Effectively giving my old virgin a £1500 limit but my new card a £8500 limit.
Whats more, i get 0% BTs for 9 months on the new Abbey card.
Now thats what i call flexibility.
MBNA i want your babies.

If you have MBNAs babies just don't deny it access to them when the relationship breaks down.

Hi Daytona,
Exactly the same happened to me last evening, call from Abbey as I have applied for the new 0% for 9 months.
They had noticed that I hold a Virgin Card and an MBNA Card.
I did a bt from MBNA to Virgin last month and intend paying off the small MBNA balance this month prior to the end of the 0% deal
The very nice gentleman offered to reduce the credit limit on the MBNA to £1,500 and give me £11,000 credit limit on the Abbey card.
The Virgin card has a £6,000 credit limit.
MBNA, you have my vote.

I once had an MBNA card, somehow managed to get up to a £4,200 limit. Being only 23, what would I want a limit that high for?
I cancelled the card as I felt that, even though I could have reduced the limit, MBNA make it too easy to build up debt.
0% deals are all well and good - my idea is not to have the debt to begin with. Currently I owe about £1620 on two cards, eventually I hope to only have one card with a £500 limit for emergencies.
Card debt is stupid debt!!! I don't want to ever have to play the 0% game again. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
"Card debt is stupid debt"
I wouldn't say so. I have more than 1/3 of my mortgage offset by funds from 0% credit cards. Hardly stupid debt if you ask me but I can understand that it might not suit everyone.0 -
Hi,
Have to agree with you Galstonian, I too have offset around 90% (60K) of my mortgage on 0%.
I think it would be "stupid " not to take advantage of the offers however, I suppose it is about discipline and keeping a track of things but in all honesty it's not hard but everyone is different and the 0% game may not appeal to all but how can you argue with a profit of more than £3500 in one year for a few phone calls?

60k on 0% - oh my god
There's me just dipping my toe in the water and applying for my first card where I intend to do a SBT and put it in my new Cahoot account.
Puts me to shame. And I thought I was being adventurous :-[ :-[
Will have to try harder over the next few months - see how far I can get by Christmas. ;D ;DNice to save.0 -
Hi,
It has obviously taken a few of years to get the big limits on the credit cards so you have to start somewhere, what I would say is do it step by step aswell so you don't have too many credit searches done either.
But best of luck and once you get used to making all payments on time it's a doddle.

That is what dd's are for however, you still need to ensure that you have enough funds in your current ac to pay the dd!!!!!Treat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.0
