Email problems Web Mania

Hi everyone

I had a business email address 'info@' set up with web mania. It was never totally reliable and when I recently got an imac, I decided to have Outlook instead with web mania diverting all emails.

The problem is that when i send messages out, it randomly decides not to send certain emails and if I try it again, it will eventually send or not bother at all. I am now in the position where I don't know who has received emails and who hasn't!! It is annoying to say the least and could also be costing me business.

Any suggestions what the problem might be?

Thanks

Angie

First off, have you checked all your settings, particularly the SMTP settings?

Web mania have a guide on their website

If no joy there then get in touch with web mania and get them to look at it to check there are no issues with the email server(s).
  • I was a web-mania customer got 6 years, the service was never prfect,
Of late the service has become really bad, try googling for "web-mania problems" and you will see.

Today the mail server have been off line for 6 hours, my website has vanished, the live help or phone is never answerd and support emails bounce. Given the timing of your post if you are using the web-mania SMTP sever I think you may have the same problems.

Best solution - move! There are plenty of providers out there, if you just want email forwarding try
just-the-name dot co dot uk Or proserveuk dot com or krystal dot co dot uk (sorry it wont let me post the names!?)

All cost less and work better!

If web-mania will not move the domain to a new provider (this seems to be a common problem) - nominet can do it for your for £10
  • Same experience. Been with Web-Mania for a few years, and they used to be OK. Now - there is no customer support. No phone support, no live chat, no response to emails. Their control panel is extremely limited so you can't manage many things independently, as in cPanel. I've been trying to contact them for the last 4 weeks. Zilch! I can't even login to my ftp anymore. Needless to say, I've moved. In the nick of time too, I think. I wonder what Trading Standards might have to say about it???

Interestingly, they have just put up a posher looking homepage for their website, but click on any links, and the rest is the same tired old look from 6 years ago. It looks like it's just a front.

    Avoid Web-Mania!
  • Dont touch these people with a barge pole. I have 8 client sites which have been down for over 6 days. Writing to their abuse@web-mania.com has elicited the response that various servers are down yet their server status indicates that everything is working perfectly. They lie to customers, mis-advertise (reported to both OFT and ASA) and give absolutely no support whatsoever. STAY WELL AWAY.!

Yes, me too... I've been trying to contact them since Friday 29th because my site is down. Their chat is down, the 0844 phone number is on hold for ever, and they don't reply to emails. Another account I have with them is still working... Is there some way to find out if they have gone bust?

I have 2 domains registered and hosted by them that have also been down since the 29th and they seem to refuse all communications.
I was quite miffed when I got an email from them at 2 this morning to remind me that I should renew one of my domains with them as it runs out in 6 weeks.

I have registered with onlinenic.com and raised a complaint with them. Webmania sell .com domains on their behalf, so they have issued them a notice to release my domain within 24 hours or they will take over.

Frustrating doesn't even come close to it.

    Hi All.

I'm glad (although sorry for your guys) that im not the only one having these problems.

Could somebody please advise me how to move my domain names and who is a good company to host a website for.

123reg.co.uk seems the obvious choice, but im sure someone is better placed to tell me who's best.

    Kind Regards

WebMania seems to be working again, sort of, although I've still not had any reply to the dozens of tickets I raised...

I have used 123-Reg for years to register my domains, but I believe in keeping eggs in separate baskets, so I host my actuals websites elsewhere. So I just change the nameservers in 123-Reg to point to wherever I have my site. I'm in the process of changing the nameservers away from WebMania to go to HostGator instead.

I've used HostGator for the past 3 years, and they seem very good, providing unlimited file space, sub-domains, etc, and I got an introductory discount and money off for paying for 3 years in advance. But if they went bad, I would just have to get an account on another hosting company and change nameservers to that one.

It's hassle, but good backups and a bit of time are all it takes to switch to a new host.
