Choice of replacement heating system - advice required please!

Hi,
My family and I recently bought and moved into a house which has a Worcester 19/24CBi boiler fitted in conjunction with a hot water cylinder/expansion & feed tank etc. The radiators/piping etc. have been installed about 25 years (when the property was built). The boiler is very noisy when running (to the point it wakes us in the mornings!) The house is four bedroom detached and has two bathrooms. There are three of us living here.
We are considering replacing the boiler with a Combi system (which would mean the power shower becoming redundant as it is fed from the hot water cylinder).
We have had a few people around to quote. Each has more or less favoured the combi system (from a variety of makers) but I have my reservations now as to whether it would suit our needs and if we would be wasting water waiting for it to be heated when called for via the taps as the boiler would be some distance away from them.

I would be grateful for some advice please. I realise this is difficult without seeing the setup but a few pointers would be appreciated.

Thanks.

The Achilles heel of a combi is the inability to produce copious amounts of hot water; especially in winter when the mains water temperature is low. Certainly it will not cope with two showers running together.

Some combis have a facility to store hot water in a small internal tank, so that would overcome some of your reservations about a long wait for hot water, albeit the siting of the boiler is still a factor.

I can understand the attractions of having a combi in a new build, as it saves on installation cost and space.

However I personally wouldn't dream of replacing a System boiler and HW tank system with combi. I have both – the combi in an annex – and a HW tank wins hands down for me every time – not to mention the airing cupboard that house the tank.

Have a look at the Atmos Multi.

Ridiculously cheap and reliable for the cost, and lashings of HW as well.
