Real Life MMD: Should I pay my sister for fake Uggs?

I thought goods brought into the country through 'nothing to declare' channels were intended to be for the traveler's personal use - otherwise it's a business transaction. Not only that, £90 is a large percentage of the value of the 'personal allowance' your sister was entitled to.
So you, not only, asked her to cheat and be inconvenienced but also to forgo some of her allowance and now, having done what you asked, you want her to pay for boots most people wouldn't be seen dead in? Some sister you are! She's blameless you're weird - end of dilemma!0 -
What price is a sister? Pay her the £90; go out for a drink with her and ask all about her holiday. Wear a nice pair of shoes and send the damn boots to Japan where some poor person might appreciate them.0

Do I ask for my money back?
No!0 -
Why did you buy ugg boots in the first place?? and if they look the same just without the designer label, then i think you are being stupid and snobby. learn to think for yourself instead of wearing the same as everyone else. no, you should not ask your sister for the money back as it is your fault.0

If you had gone to Austtalia and bought them for yourself, and like your sister you were convinced they were the genuine article, you would still be out the £90.
If you are saying that you could instantly tell fakes from genuine, whereas your sister unfortunately lacks that expertise, then you should not have asked her to get them in the first place without having ensured that she either shared your skills or else had a few pointers on what to look out for.
Sadly not all money saving efforts work out - this appears to be one of those cases - but it was not her fault.
You might even find that these woots are as good as genuine Uggs anyway.
Either which way, I think you should not ask for your money back. Your sister did her best for you. She traipsed round the shops especially to you your Ugg boots and even increased her luggage to accommodate them. She deserves a huge thank you and even a medal. I am sure she is as upset as you that they turned out to be fakes - assuming you have told her. How mean it would be if you then ask her to out of pocket to the tune of £90 too!0 -
This is a question you shouldn't even need to ask - OF COURSE you should pay her! Mind you, if you are gormless enough to pay over the odds for items purely because they happen to have particular sequences of letters stamped on them, then maybe you deserve pity rather than censure.0

I can't believe this is a dilemma either. Of course you should pay her and at the end of the day they'll still keep your feet warm so just wear them!Bump due 22nd September0

UGG is a generic term, used in Australia and New Zealand, for sheepskin boots. It is the American company who stole the name and who are producing the fake lookalikes - and I for one wouldn't entertain buying them. I have a lovely pair of "genuine" UGG boots that I bought in Australia some years ago. They are wonderful in the snow.
If you ever want your sister to do you a favour again, pay up and shut up0 -
There is no doubt that you should pay your sister who was just trying to do you a favour and wasting her holiday "to boot"!
If they look like what you describe as "the real thing" then who else would know they weren't if you wore them? I bet these would work just as well and to the rest of us non-designer label
aficionados’ they all look equally scruffy! Sorry, no sympathy for you on this one.0 -
Yep you should pay for them. The moral of the story is next time get them yourself.0
