HTC Wildfire prob with gmail

Please can anyone help me? I have had my phone for a while and always used it with the Gmail app rather than the HTC email widget. Tried out the HTC widget yesterday but I don't like it at all. Now I get two notifications whenever I get an email and I can't work out how to get rid of the HTC one.
I have dragged and dropped the widget into the bin but that doesn't help.
Would be really grateful for some instructions!

Just remove your Gmail account from the HTC email app. Should be an accounts setting in there somewhere.0

Go into the email account and press the settings button.
Then go to accounts.
(on mine)
