Help deciphering benefits!

I have moved in with my partner who is in receipt of ESA cont support related, DLA medium care comp and higher rate mobility and gets IIB (industrial injuries benefit). I am also unemployed as was on Cont JSA in Scotland before I moved down south to be with him. I have been told that I cannot get anything. I was on as an ESA partner with my ex but we have been told that cause he gets the IIB it pushes it over a threshold and if I went on as an ESA partner it would lower our money.

My question is how or what do I go on? As I need to prove to people that I too am unemployed and we just seem to be stuck with this. It just seems a bit unfair that I cannot get any money what so ever and have to be living off just his money which is supposed to help him

Any advice at all will be gratful.

as he gets middle rate care you could apply for carers allowance as long as you care for him for a minimum of 35 hours a week

Why do you have to prove to people that you're unemployed, not paying tax proves this.

Anyway, as your partner is in receipt of MR Care of DLA you may be able to claim carers allowance as long as you meet the criteria.

    visit directgov for details

Unfortunately in most cases benefits and fair don't go hand in hand i'm afraid

yeah tell me about it. the system is totally screwed up. Yeah, as I said his dad gets the carers allowance to care for him. I need to prove that I'm unemployed to get the lower rate of access to the local leisure centre. They need proof of being unemployed. So if not being able to get anything, how do I prove this??

    you cant.
as long as your partners income is deemed high enough to support both of you, you are not unemployed, you are his dependant.

Take over care duties from his father as he's not needed anymore, bit strange caring for your son for at least 35 hours whilst his girlfriend is there don't you think.

Who told you it wasn't worth being classed as his partner for benefit reduction purposes?

Yeah I agree with that in part, yes his dependant on money, but surely i am still registered as unemployed within my own right, I am still suffering through not being able to get a job within this area and therefore unemployed.

the partner may feel more comfortable with his father being his carer.
i know if i needed really 'personal' care i'd rather have my mother do it for me than my husband!

Hey Allen, I am classed as his partner. but IF I was to be named on his ESA to get a Joint ESA amount we would lose out on his IIB which I don't think is fair and we would get less money than we do just now. And that was the DWP that told us that.
