Hi all
My daughter is 3 in a few weeks, she's had a bag of mega blocks around for 18 months or so and played a few times with them (but they aren't very exciting, just blocks; no cars, no people etc), am thinking of asking relatives to buy duplo for her birthday, have i missed the boat or do they use it up to 5ish????
thanks

My dd moved from duplo to lego about 3 ish so personally I think duplo is a bit young for her at 3People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

you are kidding right? my son loves the duplo.. he is 19.. years not months!!! in fact all mine still love playing with the duplo.. lego is alright but far too fiddly.. duplo is great.. sturdy, robust, almost unbreakable.. hurts like a bugler when you stand on it but nothing compared to lego and it doesn't block the vacuum when you try sucking it up.. oh.. and the baby can't swallow it..
We love duplo.. and have crates and crates of it.
you can get fairies and princesses and animals and pink!!! lol..LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
my son is 3 in april and love duplo. he has played with it from about 12 months due to having older bro and sister. he still very much enjoys playing with it. but as above he really love proper lego. however every now and then he will get the duplo busket and spend hours playing it, along with his 7 yr old sister. they also use it along side lego . age 3 is prob a bit late to be getting it. but it all depends on your child. and if your gonna be having any more children. as it wil keep for another child and give years of play.0

My son is a very bright 5 and half year old and still prefers his duplo to his smaller Lego. HTH.0

Maybe she just doesn't like playing with building blocks?0 -
My daughter (also 3) has never really been into building blocks at all. We've got Mega Blocks and some traditional wooden blocks, but she doesn't really bother with them.
She mainly plays with role play toys like kitchen and cleaning items, a baby doll with cot and pushchair, and Barbie dolls. Here I go again on my own....0 -
My girls love it, they are 6 and 4. we have a castle set and a zoo set. They love all the extra's like the animals etc and build huge wildlife parks with princesses watching over0

My 3 year old, 5 year old and 8 year old Kids all like playing with Duplo. It's now supposed to belong to my youngest, but once the Duplo is out, they all get involved with building things.

I boxed all our duplo up (my girly was 5 at the time) ready for going in the loft and the boys (15 and 12) go it all out to play with.. then the girls (10, 8 and now 6) got another box .. and my DGS with my 19 y/o started coming more often so they have it out.. I gave up and put all the dollies and stuffed animals in the loft instead!LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0

My DSs only had blocks in Duplo and they played with them endlessly and kept using them long after they were introduced to Lego. If melg1973's DD has had access to Duplo for 18 months and hasn't shown any great interest in it, maybe she would prefer something else for her birthday?
melg - does she play with building blocks when you visit other children or at playgroup/nursery?0
