I'll have to try and find the installation disc - quick question, do you know how to run a disc on a notebook HPmini that has no cd/dvd drive?
Is there some way i can use the cd drive on a laptop to run the disc to the hp mini?
Argh!
first off, reboot the lappy manually. What were you trying to run avast for, install or scan or update ??......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
F8 just returns to the same black screen.
avast was installed and i thought it made sense to run a quick check, it found a virus, moved to the vault and wanted to restart.
On the restart the computer failed.
It it worth trying this from the HP website.

Restore the PC to its original condition with the HP Recovery Manager if Windows Vista is not accessibleIf the PC cannot launch into Windows, it may still be possible to use the HP Recovery Manager on the hard drive to restore the computer to its original operating condition. The Recovery Manager can be launched during the start up process by following the steps below.- Press the Power button to start the PC, and then press the f11 key when the standard BIOS prompts are displayed on the black screen.
NOTE: Pressing the f11 key during the startup on a computer with an HP factory image will start the system recovery process even if the prompt is not displayed.- If the HP Recovery Manager can access the recovery partition on the hard drive, a prompt to backup the user files before beginning the recovery is displayed. Follow any on-screen instructions.
- If the HP Recovery Manager cannot access the hard drive to fix any system errors, you will need to use the personalized recovery disc that you created to recover the hard drive to its original condition.
- If you have not created the personalized recovery disc, or the discs are corrupted, you can order a replacement recovery disc from HP.
- When the Recovery Manager starts, follow the step-by-step recovery instructions shown above.
Dan also says we never got discs when we bought the computer - it seems this is common when you don't have a disc drive.0 - Press the Power button to start the PC, and then press the f11 key when the standard BIOS prompts are displayed on the black screen.

how?
turning off and on, just brings up the message (as below)
windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:
1 insert your Windows installation disc and restart your computer
2 choose your language settings, and then click next
3 click repair your computer
If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance
file: \Windows\system32\DRIVERS\15208692.sys
Status: 0xc0000098 (they are zeros)
Info: Windows failed to load because a critical system driver is missing, or corrupt.
all options safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with command prompt, last known good configuration, and start windows normally all return the following message0 -
