Better to get servicing done by main dealer or not

    Not true. It's OE or not at all. I've seen MANY warranty claims refused because of 'quality' aftermarket parts failing or having been fitted incorrectly.

    Depends on the car.

    If I were buying a 5 or 6 year old Cee'd in a few years I'd be wanting to see FKSH, or a big chunk taken off the asking price, due to the warranty.

    As for self-serviced cars -- that's fine but AFAIAC no receipts = no service history in this instance. Hand written notes in the book (which I have seen once before)+no receipts = no buy unless cheap. There has to be supporting evidence, and to be honest I much prefer receipts even when the car has been serviced at a garage.

    Do you mean a proper Renault dealer or a parts shop like German and Swedish?

    I have never heard of a Renault dealer selling parts other than Renault ones.

    Come to think about it I haven't seen a multi franchise dealer that had Renault as one of the franchises either.

    They may be about, just that I have never seen one.

    Renault have always been a bit expensive for parts, but servicing parts are reasonable.

    I can't see the point in saving £3 on an oil filter to be honest.

    Though I have no problem in fitted better quality parts, say upgraded EBC pads and discs a K+N air filter or a stainless steel exhaust etc.

    But if I had a choice of say Jurid or Renault brake pads then I would get the Renault ones.

    This may be due to the issues we had with Jurid pads on Mercs and BMW's back in the early '90s when I ran a garage.

    We used to recommend OE spec parts, but some people wanted the cheaper Jurid pads.
    Though from what I have read Jurid pads are now of an acceptable quality. I still won't buy them though, old habits and all that.

    I have a simliar attitude to you Jase, I keep all the reciepts for work done to my cars and the parts I have fitted.

    I still get the wifes car serviced annually at a VAT registered garage, but I do extra interim servicing myself, as I believe that use in and around London come firmly under harsh conditions.

    Probably Motrio. It's the aftermarket version for Renault/Nissan. It won't be the same quality as OE, but is the dealers version of aftermarket parts for trade supply (usually).

    Then you need to get about a bit more.

    I run a small fleet, we use a local garage and they are great. 28.00 p/h for labour, had a couple of warranty claims with no issues and they supply a car if required.
