How important are torque settings on bolts?

Absolutely vital in this case. They need torquing for a reason, and must be tightened in the correct sequence, too. I tend not to use a torque wrench for wheelnuts, although when I was in the motor trade I would do, bearing in mind an airgun can be deceivingly excessive!0

Sump plug is one of the main things I use it for.
The alloy sump on mine is prone to stripping, or seizing up, if you mess it up.0
