Apparently their stomachs are the size of their clenched fist, so they don;t really need much to fill it up, and it also explains why they need feeds so regularly, as breastmilk is disgested to much more easily than formula, so their tummies empty quickly and need filling again. formula clogs them up a bit as it's not so easily digested, which is why they can go longer between feeds.

I have read this thread with interest and here is my three penceworth, for what it's worth!

I am due in 4 weeks and I have every intention to give BF a good go, thats what I have chosen to do. However, if I cant do it, after help, then I am not going to beat myself up about it.

Also, if someone chooses to FF, thats their choice and none of my business and I would not think any less of them for FF.

Oh i forgot to mention one good point for breastfeeding is that you still have one hand free to do other stuff!!!

I have always said that if young Mums were told that they could text while breasfeeding the percentage of Mums who would at least try would double overnight!

I breastfed both of mine for 10 months, with my eldest (now 17) it was purely for financial reasons. We were away from our family so decided that rather finding childminders or nurseries I would give up work. We literally halved our income overnight and had another mouth to feed  I refused to buy any bottles or sterilising equipment, so I wouldn't be tempted to use them. I had pethidine during labour which made him sleepy and he was 8lb 7 so when he finally woke up he was ready to be fed.
It was hard work, I had cracked nipples which bled badly but I was determined to carry on and I did!
My daughter was born two years later 9lb 2, and latched on immediately......... it was also wonderful having a free arm with two children as I was able to cuddle both of them at the same time :j
