O2 Top of the Range Broadband Package (The Works) & Line Rental for £7.50 Inclusive!

Guys
I wanted to share this with you...
I have been with O2 broadband for about 8 months and really been impressed with the Broadband service and their UK based customer service which always seems very good if had a problem.
They recently announced my existing package, which I was paying £10 for a month was increasing to £13 a month! (Give or take a few pennies on these prices.)
I really wasn't that impressed with the price increase, even though only £3 a month, things are tight and need to keep a grip of my budgeting! They claimed it was because I was on a 20MB high speed package and got unlimited downloads. Where their recently announced newer price plans had caps on how much you can download and needed to reflect the unlimited download in the package...
In the letter they sent me, I noticed in the small print they would allow me to cancel my package, if I was unhappy, even though I was within the 12 month contract period. So I decided to take them up on this and cancel, intending to go over to PlusNet who offered a 10GB download package for £6.99 a month, which felt was all I needed...
I rang up and was put through to the retentions team to cancel, they were very friendly and not in anyway pushy. They asked if they could offer me a cheaper price would I be prepared to stay with them, which I said I might, depending on the offer.
What came next literally blew me away and didn't quite believe! They asked if I was prepared to switch my line from BT to them they would offer me their top of the range broadband package for FREE! I had to ask the guy to repeat this to me several times as I didn't quite believe it... I told them, I would think about it and call back later, which I did, and spoke to someone else who confirmed the deal was correct.
Basically the deal is, I pay £7.50 a month which is their cost for line rental and I get £20 a month broadband for free! I have to be honest, I upgraded the line rental to include evening and weekend calls for an additional £2.50, but the same offer was available without this... I will be signing up for a new 12 month contract, but that is not a problem with me and confirmed I would be free to go elsewhere after the contract ends.
The broadband offers up to 20MB download (I get 17.5MB) and upload of 2.5MB and download limit of 100GB, which is still one of the best in the industry and usually beats most fair use policy packages which are 40-80GB.
There are also a few geeky advantages to this package like a static IP and also free McAfee Internet Security for up to five computers. Even though I am very happy with the existing wireless router I have from them, they insist I am sent a newer even better router, which is "N" rated and bigger wireless range...
I am one very happy chappy and saving over 14 a month on what I was previously paying with my line rental from BT and old O2 package!
If you are on one of the old O2 broadband packages and been effected with the price increase, maybe you should try and see if they can offer the same deal to you. Provided you are happy to switch landline providers and be on a capped broadband package!

They certainly seem to be keen to close off all those old style contracts at virtually any price.0

I would have expected any geek to know about the "Peak/Times of congestion" traffic management:

I don't really consider myself a geek, but know what some of it means... I have no need for a static IP for example!
I thought O2 currently "Traffic Manages" all of their connections, regardless of if your on a new or old package...
They have told me that I have a 14 day cooling off period and have to see how it goes...
The offer is too good to turn down... I am not a serial Bit Torrent downloader or download huge amounts, so hope it won't effect me too much.
I get roughly 17-18 MBits when just done speed test on ThinkBroadband.com0 -

This means that you were on the old legacy package which is not traffic managed.
The deal that you have may suit your requirements but other customers have got very good retention deals on the old unlimited legacy packages because they did not take the bribe to switch.
Read this thread here which has been running since the beginning of February when the price increase letters were first sent out. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

The cooling off period relates to your decision to have this new (managed) package.
If you decide to make use of it (the cooling off period), then you can - to cancel your new tariff. (You cannot now return to your previous unlimited and unmanaged legacy "broadband package")0
