Hi

I'm about to cash in my small Stocks & Shares ISA in order to raise the balance necessary to pay off my mortgage when I retire.

Should I aim to sell my holding before the end of the financial year or is afterwards better from a financial point of view?

It doesn't really make any difference, although equities have taken a bit of a battering this year and you might like to wait and see if they recover? That said, they could go the other way as well, so don't construe this as advice

It makes no difference for the timing in relation to tax years. What is more important is to maximise the amount and make sure that you have enough to pay the mortgage balance off.
