Flyboy, when does it start then? Do you know?

    Early 2011.

I had the same problem last year insurance ran out on 26th of the month. So this year I didn't reinsure it until the 2nd and then applied for the VED.

It is just an absurd system that pushes you to break the law. But at least from now on there will be no more hassle

If you can find a PO out in the sticks that isn't linked in electronically, you might get away with taxing from 1st March with the old paper forms. Havent been able to do that round my way for the past two years though.

    Not a chance.

If you CAN find a Post Office 'out in the sticks' that isn't online, it won't be a RFL outlet anyway.

I have no problem doing this in main town POs I just tell them "I want the disc to start for the current month" never get an objection

As long as I have insurance and MOT valid for the day of purchase they HAVE TO issue a valid tax disc to enable me to legally take my car on the road even if it is only for one day!

    OP, the facts are,

    You have insurance until 22nd
    You don't have tax
    You have MOT

You have two options that of keeping the car on the highway or keeping the car off the highway

If the car is on the highway you need to renew your insurance now & your tax from the 01/March/2011 at a PO

If the car is off the highway you need to declare SORN from the date you took it off the road, perhaps your old tax disc ran out 28/02/2011, in which case phone up DVLA now and tell them you declared SORN on 28/02/2011 (even if you didn't do it) and you haven't heard anything yet and do they want you to declare SORN again from 28/02/11?

There is a new penalty £100 coming in for being uninsured and not declaring SORN, although we haven't heard of anyone getting this new fine yet, and when it started/is starting is unknown at this point There is no point in you taking a risk on this. Decide which of the options above you are going to do.
