Whats with all of the spam???

The latest one I am sure is doing it for spite, several aliases and I wouldnt be at all suprised it its the spammer who PM the other day.

The problem seems to be worse in the wee hours or weekend, although just lately its all evening.

Cant we have one or two BG's that have some clout and ban these idiots? or better still block there IP address temporary.

No of us want the BG or admin to work unnecessary when we can block these idiots, problem solved for a while at least

I also think more sites could be added to the filter there's several so called free pyramid schemes which always get through.

I am not sure the BGs have IP searches here, on another forum of mine, I banned a user and did a serch and he had been banned 68 times :eek:

Actually, it might be unethical for BGs to here to access IP addresses, due to some members using aliases to post more sensative threads where they wish to be anon.

It could be best to try to find some extra BGs that are on through the night, we have our sites manned 24 hours a day using people from diffrent time zones, there is always one person online who can deal with any trouble, but we have free reign of all the boards, not just a few.

Its hard to come up with an idea that works with such a large and diverse forum

As for through the night cover, what is the point when there are very few users about to see it and thousands of more posts to take even the most bored user's attention. It will be removed in the morning, done and dusted.

Yes, I'd rather spend my time helping users but removing this type of spam is such a miniscule part of day to day BG'ing on MSE that I ain't going to lose any sleep over it.

If you think any website should be banned, as always report to abuse@ for their consideration.

Usually the night time ones are posting about USA sites, sign up here and you'll make loads of money type thing or an internet type chain mail, add your name to the bottom and you'll get sent money.

IP bans do nothing- if they wana access the site- they will. However we can hope they will get bored and go away

I think having more BG's would be useful, on the arms generally and just a general BG who is around virtually all day on computer (there has to be someone surely?) who can ban users and ip's temporarily till a 'real' BG of the area comes along

A bad thing about banning IP's is that many IP's are simply owned by the company, not the individual user and changes regulalry. some peoples ip changes every time they come online, others monthly, weekly etc

So by blocking that spammer you may be blocking a potential or current member also
