  • Contacted the council, unfortunatly they don't offer the companion element.
  • I have a disability pass from Manchester Council, took less than a week as far as I can recall to get it, my CPN just filed out a form, they asked for a copy of a prescription and that was that got the card in the post. here the elderly passses have a blue section on the right of the card, the disabled pass is orange on one side

it says concession plus at the top which means i can use it during peak hours the same as i can use it off peak (the other you can only get free travel after 9.30 am)

allows me to travel on trains and trams throughout Greater Manchester and busses all over England.

I have to pay full price for train journeys outside G. Manchester, but I'll speak to someone about a disabled rail pass or something

cant use tubes in London either.

    hope that helps
  • Does the GP return the forum to the council, or will I have to pick it up from the surgery & take it to the council?

Also, how long after the council receive my form will I get the bus pass?
  • I had to pick mine up from the GP and take it to the local council office myself. Also, it took me three goes before I got the pass (they kept turning me down but not telling me why) but when it was sorted I got the pass pretty quickly, within 7 days.
  • Contacted the council, unfortunately they don't offer the companion element.

Redcar does, Middlesbrough doesn't, Durham does, only way to know for sure as you have found out is to ask your particular authority.

How can they turn you down when you have GP evidence?

How can they turn you down when you have GP evidence?

very easily because the rules aren't clear cut like thay are for the OAP bus pass and the grounds vary from LA to LA, it was easy for me because HRMC are clear cut grounds to get a bus pass, the grounds to get on on LRMC are sometimes if you are refused a driving licence for MH reasons but not always.

Either my GP didn't give enough details the first time, or it wasn't worded very well ... or perhaps the person making the decisions that day wasn't feeling sympathetic, or maybe they didn't know what asperger's syndrome was ...

The boundaries for these cards are quite large. You can go as far as:

Hadfield, Glossop, Hayfield, Tideswell, Buxton, Macclesfield, Knutsford, Warrington, Prescot, Ormskirk, Leyland, Blackburn, Accrington, Rawtenstall, Bacup, Portsmouth (West Yorkshire), Hebden Bridge, Halifax and Huddersfield.

    for free.
  • I have been granted a pass on mental health grounds as the Gp feels I am not fit to drive.
