Concessionary bus travel.

I have applied for a free travel pass & am wondering if I can use it outside of my town? Also, is there any concessions for people who you rely on to accompany you to places?

You can use the travel pass outside of your local area for buses but your council may include other services other than bus travel which are not available outside your local area.

I don't know about someone accompaning you though if you get a Disabled Railcard this entitles you and 1 person travelling with you a 1/3 of the ticket.
  • I've clicked on the link & eventually it just takes me to the contact details of the local council. Think I will telephone them tomorrow.

    Thanks.

Do you mean your bus pass that you get when you get your state pension
    or a different one.

My husband had a disability pass when he was 57 because of sight problems.
We werent aware for a long time but his was able to get a bus pass which included a C on it for companion.
It depends on your local council's policy and the nature of your disabilit
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • Sorry, I mean a disability pass.

My GP is filling it in and should be with the council by Friday, so it might be an idea for me to telephone the council in the morning & ask their policy.
  • If you have a disabled bus pass you can use it on any bus in England.

If you live in London you can also use the tube, but if you live outside you cannot. So extra benefits are local.
  • I live in the north east of England.

Its the same pass with the same conditions as the OAP pass and Mcneff is correct on the companion pass but it only valid for the companion in the area that has issued tha pass which is a bit daft, and not all LA's do C+ passes either.

To get C+ you need to show that you need someone with you when you travel but it dosnt mena that you cant travel alone either.

I have a pass due to disability and my parents have them as they're over 65. They're both exactly the same but when I get my ticket it says 'Vis Imp' on it lol, short for visual impatient of course but it did tickle me when I first realised it said that.

You can't use it in Wales and I can't use mine in England which much be annoying for people living by the border.

As others have mentioned you can get a companion pass too which covers you and one other.

  • I will inquire about a companion pass tomorrow.

Should I have asked the GP to recommend one on my application form?

The one in london is called 'Freedom pass' and is only given to people who live in london.
