Going Abroad, need to end iPhone 3GS contract with 3

Hi there folks.
I'm going abroad in the next 2/3 months, and I have an iPhone 3gs with 3. I took out the contract in October 2010 and unfortunately, have rather a long time left on it (it's a 24 month contract).
I'm not after retention deals, I'm just looking to end it. I have a feeling it's going to cost an absolute bomb.
Anybody have any idea how much it will cost? I've tried googling and can't find any idea.
Thanks in advance..

will be the remaining months in the contract times the monthly amount
you may be able to offset that a bit by selling the phoneEx forum ambassador

You'll be looking at around £570 to end your contract then0

You could ask them for a settlement figure on the final bill, you would usually have to pay about 75% which would be around £427.50 but all depends if the network your with will offer this at such an early stage into your contract
It would also show on your credit file that you hadn't paid the bill in full so it's something i would think long and hard about0 -
End it now and you'll save the VAT on £30 a month. Sell the phone on eBay and you should have a good sum to put towards it.
Or sell it on to someone you trust and change the DD (but remember that if they default on the payment, then it's still your contract and your credit file that will be trashed). No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
VAT is not saved by paying early. Only if the settlement amount is less that any total amount normally due under contract.0

Could be wrong but I thought termination fee's were vat free.
Under the contract you pay xx a month for a service and thats vattable, but a termination fee there is no service provided and hence no VAT.0 -
Indeed, that's what's been reported here. So that would save the OP around £100, plus whatever they can get from selling the handset. No free lunch, and no free laptop0
