Apparently long gone are the days when Mercs would go on and on forever.
But on the other hand, they're still mainly used as taxi's in Germany and the rest of europe, so I don't know......

These days long-term cost wise, a petrol is less costly (mainly due to hight repair costs on diesels).

One thing to watch out with this range if its an automatic , is the oil cooler ( fitted into the radiator ) if it springs a leak , therefore coolant ends up in the transmission unit ( which can be extremly expensive to repair )

get an independant check of the car is the safe bet

If that were a 1985 or 1995 Merc I'd say go for it, but a 2005? Not a chance.

Agreed, if it were a year 2000 Merc, it would have rusted away by now.;)

But Mercedes are going back to their traditional build quality not sure when this improvement started to felt. As an aside, my old 1990 Mercedes was at 230k miles and is now enjoying a new lease of life as a taxi in Nigeria.

That problem was for pre 2005 cars, with a Valio radiator,2005 will be fine.

Did the buyer pay you by bankers draft and ask for the change via Western Union?

High mileage is not really a big issue

As long as it's been service correctly and runs well, i.e no bluke smoke, hesitant etc then i see no real reason not to get the car

My car, granted it's diesel, has just touched 158k miles and still runs sweet as a nut.

It's a Renault Laguna mk2, granted French electrics are something to be desired, but their engines seem to be well built.

It starts first time, every time, it doesnt smoke at all, and it returns 45-50mpg around town - 60+mpg on a long run

Not bad for a £1500 motor

Only if you're an arsonist or a pyromaniac. :D

That said, your Renault will probably last longer than that Merc, French electrics or no.

Not everyone from Nigeria is a 419 con artist

Would you like to be classed as a Welsh sheep shag*er by all and sundry?
