Fairfx card question

Do you need two cards one for euros whilst on holiday and one for gbp if booking a holiday through ryanair etc?

Or can you get just one for both things?

I use just one, in Euros. Ryanair detects it is a Euro currency card and tried to charge you in Euros. When booking, before confirming the price, make sure you see the price in GBP. You get a better rate paying in GBP and FairFX converting to Euro, rather than letting Ryanair charging you their rate. You can use it abroad, but are probably better getting a Halifax Clarity card for spend abroad. ATM charges are lower (free).

PS book return flights separately - and pay in Euros. That way check-in is Eur6, not £6 and so on.

The cards are currently free (https://www.fairfx.com/) if you top up just 10 Euro - everyone should have one for booking with Ryanair. As they take a while to come, get one now for 10 Euro, then top it up to however much you need just before you book.

  • Thanks well I had to book flights last night so was stung by their fees but don't want to have to pay them again so I'll order a euro one then thank you

It is worth getting one now for just 10 Euro top-up (card is free via link above), and then topping up just before you actually need to use it. I had mine about five or six weeks before I needed to use it. If you decide you don't need it, you can always use it to buy something cheap online and spend most of the 10 Euro. You can use it like any mastercard, even on a UK purchase.
  • Thanks just ordered it now wish I'd had it last night but nevermind won't be happening again lol.

Next time, you'll be saying "Up yours O'Leary, I'm not paying your administration fee this time" when you pay for the flights. Or maybe that is just me.
  • Ha ha no I'll be saying exactly the same next time he may have won the battle but he won't win the war lol not now I have my new card on it's way lol

I have a FairFX card and find the acceptance of it on the Ryanair website to be very hit and miss. Often I have tried to pay two or three times and given up in the end.

For anyone working in the NHS, the NHSCashback Black card is a better option (free upload over £200, no transaction fees).

Not sure as to why you were advised to get this card for your usage. A Global card would have been better and not necessarily FairFX's offering.
