Moses basket / crib / cot bed??

I think part of the problem is I don't really like the moses basket we were given (without wanting to sound spoilt) I just don't like the colours or the pattern. I am also looking at the one on offer in Argos - will see if I can persuade OHOr there are a couple with stands on ebay that are a lot plainer than what we have!
I didn't like the fabric covering mine by the time I got to number 3 either. Winnie the Pooh had stopped being cute! I did look at the time and find on ebay new coverings for Moses baskets for only a few pounds but I don't know how good they are in practice as I got over myself before I ordered it!
But if you are even moderately handy it would be a doodle to make a new covering yourself using the old one as a template. I didn't do that either though0 -
Morning!
Our baby is due 31st March and although we've bought a cot bed for their room we also have a Mama's and Papa's travel cot for the first 6 months when he/she is in our room. It'll last longer than a moses basket and we can use it as a playpen after the baby has gone into their own room. I liked the look of the swinging cribs but they seemed to me a waste of money, like the moses basket the baby will grow out of it pretty quick.

See if you can get one with a proper mattress too- we had one for DD that was like sleeping on cardboard, and even her lambskin didn't soften it enough for her to sleep. When DS slept in it for a weekend we managed to borrow a softer mattress to fit over the existing one and it was much better. Have a look at what's going into your travel cot as some are a little basic to say the least! They call me Dr Worm... I'm interested in things; I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.0 -
Hi
We had a moses basket downstairs (borrowed from SIL), a swinging crib (but never used the swing, a static crib would have been better) in our room and a cot bed in the babies room.
I didn't want to carry the baby up and down the stairs in a bed for fear of tripping or the handle breaking and the baby falling out - yes I am a worrier. Baby hardly ever fell asleep in the moses basket, mainly used to put him in when I went to make a drink or get something to eat. Returned it to SIL when baby was 3 months as he got to big (he isn't a big baby).
Baby is 5 1/2 months and he is still in his crib in our room, although we are planning on putting him into his room next week as he is starting to look a bit confined. It has been lovely having him in our room for so long, he is very quiet so doesn't disturbed us.
If you can afford it then I recommend having all three, but I wouldn't upgrade the moses basket as you won't be using it after a few months.0 -

The mattress we have is a really good one, I wouldn't mind sleeping on it my
self but doubt I'd fit! The travel cot is actually a hand me down from my sister, both her kids were in it from birth and she had no problems. We also have the option of a moses basket if the travel cot doesn't work for us, the pram we bought is a Silvercross sleepover that converts to a moses basket and comes with a stand. I'm just going to see what is best for our baby for the first 6 months, after that they'll be in the cot bed in their own room x0 -
I used a moses basket for both mine as somewhere for them to sleep in the day. They grew too big for it at aound 10-14 weeks. My youngest had a cot-bed and went into this at night. Whist they do look little in there, as you should put the baby in the feet to foot position (babies feet to the foot of the bed) the expanse is above their head -iyswim.0

:rotfl:no I am not remotely handy, lovely idea though! I didn't see the coverings before now but that would have been a good idea.
Feeling very :money: as I've just won a moses basket in plain white covers plus a stand for £5 on ebay - I could have paid that much for the stand!! So I'll get a new mattress and will be able to use the other moses basket for the short time baby is in it!
Thanks again everyone for your help - you convinced me that it is worth having the basket but to remember it isn't worth spending too much on it as baby won't be in it for long!!0
