Old Account Numbers

MY HUSBAND AND I OPENED A JOINT ACCOUNT 2 YEARS AGO AND IT HAS BEEN NOTHING BUT GRIEF SINCE.

YOU SEE OUR BANK GAVE US SOMEONE ELSES OLD ACCOUNT NUMBER. IT WAS FINE AT FIRST BUT THEN THE SOMEONE ELSE STARTED TO HAVE DEPOSITS INTO THE ACOUNT, WE HAD NO KNOWLEDGE OF THIS AND AFTER A CERTAIN LENGTH OF TIME THE AMOUNT HAD MOUNTED TO 2K POUNDS. OUR BANK PRECEEDED TO WITHDRAW IT ALL IN ONE GO AND PROMSED IT WOULD NEVER HAPEN AGAIN BUT YOU GUESSED IT IT DID A FURTHER 3 TIMES.

I DID OPEN A NEW ACCOUNT ELSEWHERE BUT MY HUSBAND BEING OPTIMISTIC AND NOT WANTING ALL THE HASSLE OF REDIRECTING DIRECT DEBITS AND STUFF KEPT THE ACCOUNT. THIS HAS MEANT THAT WHEN THE BANK RECLAIMED THE MONEY OUR COMMITMENTS WERE NOT MET.

THE ACCOUNT IS NOW CLOSED THANK HEAVENS BUT THE STRESS FROM OVERDRAFT CHARGES AND LETTERS FROM COMPANIES WANTING PAYMENT HAS REALLY MADE ME ANGRY ESPECIALLY AFTER WE WORKED SO HARD TO BECOME DEBT FREE.

HAS ANYONE ELSE HAD THIS HAPPEN TO THEM OR HEARD OF IT

IS THERE ANYTHING THAT CAN BE DONE TO REGAIN MY CONIDENCE IN THE BANKING WORLD OR DO I HAVE TO REVERT TO PUTTING MY MONEY IN A BISCUIT TIN UNDER MY MATTRASS.

  • can anyone advise me where to invest some money for my grandchildren?
  • Miss Sixty, you might have more luck on the Savings & Investments Board:

You might need to be more specific about the type of "invest" though - if you mean investments or simply investing the money in a decent interest paying account, etc.

    Good luck.

Learn from the mistakes made, so you can take early action if anything similiar happems again.
Leave it behind you & put it down to bad luck.

When I deal with officialdom, I DO NOT ASSUME ANYTHING !!
When it comes to important things I try to doublecheck, triplecheck.

I have dealt with a bank regarding non standard issues regarding a bank account.
-The branch staff would say no you can't do that.
-Phone head office, can't get through to actual people responsible for account, as telephone staff are not allowed to put you through.
Explain things, eventually get some sort of pat answer.
-Phone head office with another query, have to explain everything again.

Everything sorted in the end, but the staff in the high street branch would never have done this.

I had to push it through the branch to the head office, to make sure things were done correctly.
