Strong but lightweight luggage

I have to agree with this. Also must hard shell weigh several kilos and always more that a holdall. When you fly on budget airlines you need to keep the case a light as possible to minimise the percentage of your weight allowance they use up even when empty. My daughter has the hard plastic ones and hers are all cracked and broken with being thrown around at the airport. This year she's going to buy the holdall type on wheels.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

Look at the luggage given to airline crew. It's good quality Samsonite or Delsey hard cases.
Mine are 14 year old Delsey Clubs, still going strong after at least six long haul trips each year, so must be over 200 flights.
Outside is scratched, but who cares, and the wheels are getting a bit dodgy, but I have some spares ready to fit when necessary.
Keep a look out on ebay for local bargains you can collect in person.
My spare ones cost about £12 and about £5 each!!

I have two sub zero cases and would not recommend for hold luggage, both used once and both had the material sliced open were the handle runs down the inside. The guarantee does not cover you for baggage handling brutality. Hope this helps.
Oops, too late I'm afraid, I ordered them last night and they're due for delivery tomorrow. I read loads of reviews and they seemed split about 60:40 for airline handling strength, with most being fairly positive. Well, I can only hope for the best now

If anyone else is still looking to buy luggage, we invested in a few items from the Pillo range last year. They are extremely lightweight and soft bodied so you can fit loads in them. They come with a 7 year guarantee too.0

Hi
I had 2 lightweight hard cased ones from Costco when they were on offer as a two pack. One got bashed on a flight from Egypt about 9 months later. Took it back to Costco and they replaced both without quibble. Used them again last year on a long haul flight and they were fine. I asked Costco what would happen if they got damaged again and they said just to bring them back. Don't even need a receipt as its all linked to your membership card.
Bought a Sub Zero case for my Jet2 flight in the summer and plan to get another 2 so that we can have one each. These will be cabin bags so shouldn't get thrown about. I bought a soft bodied case from Fly Light (or similar) for a Ryan Air flight and its good but the trolley handled is soft so its a pain when you are rolling it. It works but not very well. The Sub Zeros have a hard handle that stores away and it still fits in with Ryan Air size regulations. The Cabbage
Its Advice - Take it or Leave it:D0 -
Always check your luggage when it comes off the carousel.
If there is damage then go to the desk in the hall and they will take some details and give you a printed damage report.
You need this to make a claim.
If you leave the airport then there is too mcuh scope for it to be damaged elsewhere and claims will not generally be accepted.0 -
I recently bought a Samsonite hold-all type bag for around £120. It is very light and holds masses. I have only used it once for a trip to Egypt so I cannot comment on its durability but at the price I have high expectations of its future life.0

I have been told that their are a few companies that produce luggage with an unconditional guarantee - including airline damage

However, on looking it up it's not only very expensive but quite heavy too, so no use for me:(I let my mind wander and it never came back!0
