you mean grammatical mistakes etc?
well yeah you have to expect some of these as english it's not my mother tongue, even though your right as this is not an excuse.
ok grammar errors but theres at least 1 spelling error, you spelt technical wrong when you put it in brackets, do you re read your applications before you submit them or get a friend to check them over for errors,
just trying to help0 -
yes I do understand what you mean and your right that's why said grammatical/spelling errors are not an excuse to give,I mean it is my fault if I am making them I should re-read what I write.
However, the currys online application it's mostly a multiple choice application where they give some answers which I have to choose from for each question; therefore I think that's probably not the reason in that case as there was just a little to write.
I am just going to hope the manager answers mee so atleast I know what exactly my fault is.0 -
As someone who's been a manager, [who has hired and fired people] if I was HR for a company like HR and someone came along with retail experience in clothes shops I would reject too. I would be looking for retail experience from stores like PC World, Comet or Homebase.
I've just spoken to my retail manager sister, she agrees, wrong kind of retail.0 -
Just wanted to add good luck in your future job search. Maybe you could look at setting up your own computer repair service?0

Thank you very much for this answer,it is very interesting what you said, even though I do have some sales/retail experience, the point of views of managers is different and the reason you gave me might be the exact reason why he/she didn't choose me.
Can I ask you something? given that I do have technical skills, plus I am doing a degree in software engineering, this gives me alot of skills,I mean even though we did not study how to repair computers, I can basically repari computers, mobiles (software and intermediate level in hardware),i know how to explain them to people as well.
So how much attention will that manager give to this part according to you?0 -

Thank you natprice,I actually did and got a few costumers, the problem is this type of job is really hard to do in my area,it's a small city and you don't get much with all the shops that are already there.
Right now I am repairing iphones and selling them in order to get some money out of it, but again it's something where you do not keep getting money, reason why I need a job so I know I have a backup and plus I can use that money to invest on this repairing phones little personal business which I am working on.0 -

Depends on the business [and the manager.] If you don't have the certificate to say you can repair then it would make a difference to some mamngers. Some managers on the other hand would be open to training.
As you are at university, I would recommend doing some research. See if there are any local companies that offer work experience or internships in what you want to do? Experience always helps. Also, is there any local evening classes where you could top up with a technical qualification.
Of course, if you're a student that would have worked against you too [not flexible enough.]0 -
CPU, one thing I just wanted to add is that no matter how brilliant you may be, and no matter how competent you may be, if there's someone more brilliant and more competent than you on the day, that's just the way it goes.
It may be that your responses to the questions were above the score they were looking for - but someone else just scored higher.
Equally, you might have given an answer which was (for example) "I would advise the customer on the best computer for their needs after spending a long time talking to them". Which may be great for customer service, but Currys *may* have wanted (for example) the answer that said "I would sell them the largest package I could before moving on to the next customer as quickly as possible"!
I wouldn't try and get feedback on a multiple choice questionnaire; it's extremely unlikely they'll give it to you. They probably had hundreds of applicants and there was someone who had more flexibility in their hours, more relevant experience and got a couple more scores on the questionnaire, that's all. It's not necessarily that you're not good enough - just that there were people who were better on the day.
HTH
KiKi' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".0 -
Don't let it get you down. It's hard out there.
I finish my degree on April 18th. I've been applying for work since January. I lost count of applications, and had about 7 interviews. I even applied to Asda and had the same experience as you. Then last week I was offered 3 jobs. Instead of just having to take the first one that come along, I got to choose the best offer on the table.
Good luck.0 -
Thank you all
@GothicString yeah I understand what you mean, the problem is I have been trying to look for experience or volunteer job in Software Development companies and I have done this several times but the problem is that in the manchester area by searching companies you can barely come along 10-20 companies that are nearby otherewise you have to go through recruitment agencies which ofcourse do not give you out names of the companies they are recruiting for and neither they do allow you to work as volunteer or part time as they will not get money if I get the work for the company as a volunteer.
So with recruitment agencies is more likely that they want me to work full time if they are happy with my skills(but i can't because of uni).
If I talk direct to the company then they do not provide volunteer jobs currently etc. so because of my field, which requires to work full time ,experience and skills ,it's really hard to get a job.
This is the reason why I decided to work part time in some of these stores whether it can be clothing, electronics(better for me as it will be related) but no luck.
I'll keep trying and hopefuly something will come up but thank you for your advice.
@kiki yeah your right and this is the problem,I think i should forget the fact that companies work for customers, they apparently do but thats not the what they really mean and I should have thought that before as I have worked in retail and I know what they mean when they say we work for the customers.
It's all about selling their products and completing a deal, I have choosen things instead where I said that I look at the need of the customer and provide advice according to it where I should have chosen things I try to sell the products as much as possible (or something similar lol)0
