How could there be a radiation risk to the UK? Maybe people flying back from Tokyo bringing radiation back with them?????
it's pretty small compared to with what others are facing but the jet stream and food chain would seem possibles. meat and milk in particular.
the poor japanese are desperately buying salt. i guess iodised salt would offer some protection. i've used it since a doctor said i had very early signs of a goiter - a lot of modern diets are lacking apparently.
but iodine is the least malicious and long lasting of the radio isotopes. Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0 -
what i would say is the U.S. comments about the situation being worse than stated seem to have come after they sent in an unmanned spy plane "global hawk" to examine what was going on. that's also when they said the fuel rods in the pool were uncovered and exposed.
or maybe the US Government are sexing it up to balance out the Japanese Government trying to cover it up?
I bet the lizards are behind all this anyway.0 -

What is the opinion on here, has there been a cover up of how bad it is? Or do most belive those who say radiaition levels are not that harmful?
You would have to be an idiot to believe the news casters who say its not at harmful levels already.
I would like to see one of these high up officials to take their kids over there and say see its not that harmful!0 -
What do you think Gen, is this crisis worse than 3 mile island so far?
The earthquake was worse than at 3 Mile Island!
I know basically nothing about nuclear power beyond the very simple principle that you have a metal that gets hot as it decays and you can use that heat energy (carefully) to produce electricity.
Everything I am reading (in the sensible end of the press) seems to be couched in caveats. Phrases like, "It would appear", "According to" etc abound. This might end up to be a terrible disaster on top of 2 terrible events already. It might turn out pretty well. I hope for the latter.
It may be a boring thing to say but time will tell. There's bgger all any of us can do about it anyway.0 -

It would end up like those horrible photos of John Gummer feeding his daughter a hamburger.
Funnily enough, he was right even if he looked a prat at the time. Surely if BSE was going to get us all then it would have done so by now!0 -

Correct. My blood is not wanted here and will never be according to this. I've been thinking that I'll probably donate next time I go to the UK if I get the chance.0 -
