Switching from 02 PAYG to Tesco Mobile PAYG

My partner is looking at changing her o2 payg and buying a new mobile for Tesco PAYG , how easy is it to switch AND to retain her existing number? also how long would it take to switch?

Have also noticed Tesco use the o2 network, could I just purhase a Tesco mobile and still use the o2 sim without it being unlocked?

it should be ok if you use the o2 handset with a tesco sim, but if you wanted to use the o2 sim in a tesco mobile handset it wont work as tesco lock it to the tesco network

I have a tesco phone and tried the o2 sim-as above, it didnt work. You will need to get the tesco phone unlocked first. Check the model number then ask further advice on here before your purchase.
