Tesco/Asda pricechecker finds here.......

Thank you for your email regarding the recent changes to the Terms and Conditions of our Price Check scheme
The vast majority of our customers who use Price Check find that Tesco is cheaper than Asda. However a very small number of customers have used Price Check just to hunt down products which a competitor has on promotion and to make some money by using our guarantee. As a result we have introduced a cap on the amount you can redeem from the scheme, which is set at £20.
Whilst I appreciate your concerns over this amendment, I am pleased to say it will affect only a small number of customers, as fewer than one in 5,000 have been awarded vouchers over £20. Regrettably we had to set this to avoid manipulation of the scheme by a small number of people.
We introduced the cap yesterday but due to a technical error this was applied historically. We have now been able to resolve this problem, and any customer who submitted a price check before 12 Noon on the 24th March will have their full amount up to £100 honoured. Please be aware that any queries submitted after this time, and going forward, will be capped at £20. Please accept my apologies for any inconvenience this has caused you.
Thank you for bringing this matter to the attention of our Chief Executive’s Office.

Dear Sir/Madam,
As you must be aware, you are currently promoting a 'Double the Difference' promotion, whereby you state that;
'We’ll check the price of your comparable grocery shopping versus ASDA and then send you an email when we have your results. Of course we’re confident you will find your shopping cheaper at Tesco, but if not, we’ll refund double the difference.' (taken from your Price Checker Homepage).
Now personally, i think this offer is a good one, and i have done some comparisons where i have seen Tesco beat Asda pricewise, however, more often i have had a voucher sent due to Asda being cheaper. Up until now these vouchers have been double the difference, making shopping at Tesco far better than Asda. Today though, when i got my results back, i had a message stating;
Sorry...
This time, your shop would have been £ 20.39 cheaper at ASDA so we'll give you a voucher for double the difference back!
You can use it on your very next shop at a till in a Tesco store or by giving it to your delivery driver for a tesco.com online grocery shop.
Now when i clicked on the link, you can imagine my horror and surprise when i opened up a £20.00 voucher. Now i have no maths degree but i am pretty sure double the difference would have been closer to £40.00 not £20.00. In fairness to Tesco, this issue was sorted and i got my voucher i was entitled to, but i have a few reservations about shopping with you again. After all, i have now seen (via the online comparison) that my shopping should actually be cheaper in Asda and all of the price increases that Tesco uses to offer promotions throughout the store!
I am writing this email to you to bring a few points to your attention and i was hoping you will be able to send me a satisfactory reply to these. Firstly i would like to ask how you can advertise that you will offer customers double the difference on their shop if that quite simply is not the case as there is now a maximum voucher limit of £20.00, which to me does not portray an image of a supermarket that has confidence in their prices as anything over £10 difference will not be honoured.
Secondly, there is a lot of discrepancy between what prices you check and it appears that on a case by case basis some products are being honoured to some shoppers but not others Do you have a definitive system for your price checker (as it seems that the individual product checker will not be returning) and how can you ensure things like this do not happen? Is it a reliable source? And finally, when i did my shop in Tesco today, i noticed leaflets being distributed throughout the store, also huge billboards at the end of the aisles stating that you will offer Double the Difference but when i came home to input my receipts the terms and conditions stated that each voucher will be a maximum of £20.00, but that really isn't what your stating your offering so i believe you are falsely advertising information regarding this promotion. Also your terms and conditions contradict what is in your F.A.Q's as follows;
The maximum value of an individual Price Check Voucher is capped at £20.
> from the Terms and Conditions
Is there a maximum amount a voucher will be valid for?
There is no limit on the vouchers, other than the fair usage limit.
> from the F.A.Q's
Now whist i realise that the terms and conditions state the maximum one voucher can be valid for and this is under the fair usage policy section but surely if no voucher will be greater than £20.00 there is a maximum a voucher can be valid for?
I look forward to your response.
Kindest Regards
I sent this yesterday and am yet to hear anything.0 -
The phrase 'technical error' seems to be a Tesco favourite. Covers a multitude of sins, that phrase.0

How to complain
It is fast, free and easy to complain to the ASA.
The types of complaints we can look into include:- Misleading, harmful or offensive advertisements
- difficulty getting goods or a refund for items bought by mail order or through television shopping channels
- promotions that are unfairly run or special offers that have left you disappointed
- unwanted mail from companies sent either by post, e-mail, text message or fax
- data capture and protection of privacy
I suggest a complaint along the lines that Tesco are 'breaking the spirit of the promotion' :rotfl:
Just completed my complaint, took about 3 minutes!!! You will need to choose 'broadcast/press' as the type, then you can mention the instore adverts in the comment boxes.

I love the way they are now blaming yesterdays debacle on a technical error. I wonder if I could get away with saying that I go over my £100 a month?"You've got to cut your cloth to suit your wassname" Terry (my Dad), 1944-present0
