Is it a NEW car?

I doubt it would be a pre-reg.
On what grounds can I argue that it is not new? It would not have clocked any mileage on it. Just been in the showroom?
The only way you'd be able to argue is if there was damage to the car caused by people getting in and out of it etc. As with any new car that you inspect when you take delivery.
There's no way you'll get a substantial discount off a showroom car that you wouldn't get off any other car that's in stock.
Just ask them where it's coming from - the dealer I bought mine from said they had 6 - I could see one was sitting outside the dealers and had obviously been on a couple of test drives so made it clear I didn't want that one.0 -
If it's been polished 200 times, the paintwork may not be what you'd expect from a brand new one, could even be a previous years spec, check the build date and ask them, you may be worrying unnecessarily.!!

Check if it has 1 previous owner when you get the reg no. This reduces the resale value.0

What is wrong with the showroom car? It's still a new car.The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0

This is what I am trying to find out? Its like buying a t-shirt from a shop which 10 other people may have tried already.
Just pondering as I know Currys sell off ex-display items cheaper. So if the car is ex-showroom, unregistered, can I expect money off?0 -

Definitely not. A display TV in Currys for example is used for all of the hours the shop is open. A car is not.0 -

I'm afraid not. The dealer doesn't get any more discount from the manufacturer, so there is no more money to pass on.The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0
