New wifi router and kindle won't connect

I've got this new router and I'm blowed if I can get my Kindle to connect to it - had no problem with my old linksys - except that one was b*ggered and kept letting the signal drop out.

This new one works fine with all the other devices - PS3, DS1's, Iphone, touch, laptop(crikey I have loads of gadge!). It's WEP enabled and I entered the key with all other devices and had absolutely no problems whatsoever. I've tried changing it to B only and then G only and then all other combinations - B+G/B+G+ N etc etc - tried it on a single channel instead of auto - tried 11 and 12 as other queries on forums have suggested this.

I'm not really techy so I don't want to just fiddle with the settings in case everything gets locked out(lol)

Any ideas?

check if the kindle will operate on WEP, it's old and insecure - change router security to WPA and try again...

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D

It gives me the choice of WEP or WPA - I'm currently on WEP - not too worried about the security as I have a good firewall and password anyway - there are about 15 networks around and at least 6 of them are easily crackable(how do I know:o oops)

the point is, the kindle itself may well not be able to use WEP security. Levae the router set to mixed mode b,g and N, but change it to WPA

    Spec from amazon page:-

Supports public and private Wi-Fi networks or hotspots that use the 802.11b, 802.11g or 802.11n (in b or g compatibility mode) standard with support for WEP, WPA and WPA2 security using password authentication; does not connect to WPA and WPA2 secured networks using 802.1X authentication methods; does not support connecting to ad-hoc (or peer-to-peer) Wi-Fi networks.

check how your network is set up, the security shouldn't be an issue :)

Actually just had a thought - I just switched off security altogether and tried to connect Kindle - It still doesn't connect so it's not the type of security but must be the way the router is set up

I've connected the Kindle to WEP and WPA routers - shouldn't be a problem unless the unit's faulty. You don't have MAC filtering set up on the router? Have you tried connecting to another router - would rule out/in Kindle problems.

No MAC filtering set up - too many devices to faff abut with that.

Up until yesterday was set up to my Belking Linksys router - had to get a new one as that one kept dropping the signal but was fine with my Kindle - so not a Kindle problem - just did a restart on it just in case though

    A potentially fatal attitude.

If they're gonna get you - they will whether you have WEP or WPA. I've been got using legitimate websites - see the LUSH fiasco - I had to get a new card and nearly lost a few bob that way - I don't have that much on my PC now - gone back to old fashioned paper and a firesafe for valuable documents after losing contents of a drive.
How fatal can it be - it's not like I'm going to die?

WEP is cracked in seconds, and WPA can also be defeated (although that takes longer).
WPA2 is what you want, unless you want to make life easy for the script kiddies.

Depends on how much you value your data and network I guess, but I personally wouldn't take such a blase attitude.
