How to credit check with no history??

I would not advise checking cards before talking to a bank - if they see credit searches, it may be even more difficult to override a decline, even for someone actually able to.
With low (fair) rating, only subprime would have a reasonable chance, but they won't go higher than £100-£200, which is not useful to trash the credit file with at this point.
If you want however, I remembered that most online applications won't let you continue unless you specify 3 years of UK address history. A few just needs one more address listed in this case - and some of those will actually let you proceed if you do it like:
- ok, I'm living at house 10, postcode SW1A 2AA for 4 months
- before that? Oh, I lived at house 10, postcode SW1A 2AA for 0 months
With the right details of course, but it worked for at least one person I know, they got a Cap1 and a Vanquis with less than 2 years of UK residence, all of that on a single address. Again, these won't likely give a meaningful credit limit for a move...
Many "normal" cards won't let you get away without 3 fully specified years of history, month by month, so it's preferable to talk to a bank in person first.Enjoy the silence...0 -
I can't sing :rotfl::rotfl:
I just had a look on MSM for the credit check : 6/10 chance of acceptance with Vanquis, 5/10 with Aqua and Granite; "Low" chance with Capital's Classic or Progress and the same with Barclaycard Initial
Methinks I'll be staying with the current job for the mo while I build up a more decent credit score
Of course, any changes on that, I'll let y'all know
Don't worry, I had "Low" chance of Capital One Progress before being accepted for it no questions asked
I am very confident you'll be approved for Capital One Classic and Vanquis. My flatmate got a #500.00 limit on Vanquis and #1,000.00 limit on Capital One despite not having held a credit card for nearly a decade - the only "credit" he had was a bank account and an old default.Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

Yeahbut ... I've got ZERO history since 1995!
It's so bl#### complicated! What we're talking about here (or should be!) is the ability to pay a month's rent, deposit and eventual agency fees plus enough to live on whilst awaiting the first wage. And with those wages, I'd be wanting to pay back in a year max ...
Might be worth a try. If I got turned down, though, I'd have to put up with the present job for at least six months while things improve and I don't know if I'll manage six weeks:D

Worst case scenario you could always put up with living in a room in a shared house while you save for a proper gaff on your new salary in the new City
There's always ways and means, the more options you're open to, the more are available.
Good luck with the card applications! :beer:Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

Still try the other methods though above first...David

Hi Izools,
Yes I have often looked at sharing through easyroommate or t'other. So far I've been to Basingstoke, Hemel Hempstead, Brighton, Gloucester - all around the south and Home Counties basicallyPerhaps the easier option to keep costs down until I'm more established ...
David, this link looks quite interesting but I'll have a proper gander once back from work
Thanks a lot guys.0 -

It's a pain as such as you do have to pay for the priviledge of being able to improve your own credit score - but as a last resort it *may* be the only way to do this..
But still try the above like I said, because one lender might decline you does not mean that another won't but the situation as you know does make it difficult..
Hope you manage to get everything sorted!David

I'd be incredibly surprised if Babache doesn't get Cap One Classic & Vanquis. In fact, I'll go so far as to bet a pint on each. So long as Babache is registered to vote at their current address and has a bank account.
Might need to say been there for 3 years, OR be honest about how long lived at current address and provide the address from the 90's as the previous one. Save being tarred with the same brush as someone who's never lived here before.Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

Right, I've decided, I'm gonna go for it! Seeing as my next interview is next week and I may have to move real quick, I'm going to try a £500 limit on Capital One and Vanquis.
If I'm not successful with the interview, at least I'll have the option already in place for the next one ...;)
I'll let you know how I get on. Also, if I DO get the job, I'll be looking again at Time4Leasing as discussed elsewhere
So, what's the tipple, Izools??0 -
Rightio, I've done the dastardly deed! I just applied for the Capital One :j
And right afterwards, I've applied for the Vanquis card as well - a splendid St George's cross design to boot :j
Now, it's a case of waiting. Waiting for the mail / text / phone confirmation ... I've only asked for a £500 limit on each so, fingers crossed
I will, of course, let you know how it all goes as soonas
"Talk" to you soon ...0
