iPhones/iTunes question

OK boffins and geeks out there, my laptop has got a virus and I am now using a second laptop. How do I transfer the data FROM my iPhone to the new laptop? Eash time I try to do this via iTunes, it wants to delete my iPhone content in favour of the new laptop content. If this happens I will loose all my contact information, music, etc.

Well I am sure there is software available for you to do this. Also many Linux distros allow you to access the iPhone like a hard drive. If it is just music you want then download ubuntu and run as a live cd/DVD. Plug in the iPhone and locate the music that way. If thats tricky use the on board player - rhythmn box iirc. Back up software may cost to purchase but ubuntu os is free. Once you have located the music burn/write to USB device. Locate the iTunes music folder on the new pc and put it in there.make sure you authorise the new machine for your device.

    iTunes is based upon the principle that you Sync the iPod to the content of the iTunes library on the computer, and they haven't provided a process to do this in reverse. Therefore;

You need to transfer the content of the iTunes library from the old machine to the new.

Take the HDD out of the old machine, put it in a USB caddy and copy the content of the iTunes library folder(s) to the new machine. Then Sync the iPod to the new machine.

As stated above, I would access the iphone as a harddrive:

Open itunes up on your second laptop, go to edit then preferences then attach your iphone - this prevents your iphone syncing.

Then go to my computer, open your iphone and copy everything there onto your desktop.

Or, do you just want to remove the virus from the first computer? What is the virus name/symptoms? Irrelevant of this:
    Download and Install: Download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.50 - FileHippo.com
Go to UPDATE, click CHECK FOR UPDATES, then run a FULL SCAN. Remove everything found (tick them) and post log here.

Download and Install: Download HijackThis 2.0.4 - FileHippo.com and hit the top button of the program which produces a log within seconds. Post log here.

You can set your iTunes to not automatically sync.

you could copy iTunes folder from old laptop to new one. Boot from a linux live cd and copy it right over
It said on the box requires Windows 7 or better, so I bought a MAC

Exactly, had same problems trying to prepare a netbook for travel - iTunes wanted me to delete all content and start over, just to be able to sync podcasts while away from home. Didn't want to monkey around like that so installed....

    Mediamonkey

all solved, and handles podcasts much better to boot.

I cant risk copying direct from old laptop to new laptop - old laptop has got a virus in it and I dont want to transfer it to the new one. I want to transer from my iphone to new laptop.

If you just get your itunes folder you should be ok. If you download puppy linux you can run that off a USB stick. Boot the infected laptop off that using puppy linux. From there you can locate the itunes folder. Copy the appropriate folder then before placing it on the new PC, scan it with a virus scanner. That should allay any fears you may have. Although it does seem a shame to dispose of a laptop due to a software problem. Doing that will be a lot easier and probably cheaper than buying software to copy from the phone directly.
