Were just about to replace our potterton flamingo .... Its now 33 years old. Personally i thik we have been lucky with it :-)

Possibly not. My Potterton is over 35 years old and my parent's is 30 years old.

I must admit that I have considered swapping my old clunker for a newer model but the apparent fragility of the modern condensing boilers is rather putting me off.

It isn't going to save me any money at all if it won't outlive the payback period and, looking at the broader picture, it won't be doing the environment (or my pocket) much good either if I scrap a perfectly good conventional boiler for one that, if all the horror stories are to be believed, will itself need replacing every two to five years.

No they are not. My dad took out homecare on a 3 year old Worcester Botch. Heat exchanger is playing up, no cover. £250 to replace.

I just bought a British Gas 330 it's pretty good a decent price. I have a 2 bed flat and it fits nicely in my kitchen. It has a feeze protection system which I haven't had to use yet but sounds good.
Gas Boiler Buyability has a review of it.

Terms & Conditions for your British Gas HomeCare® Range agreement

British Gas HomeCare® Range Terms and Conditions

    SUMMARY OF CHANGES

These Terms & Conditions have been reworded and substantially re-ordered to accommodate the introduction of our "Cover" (insurance) products to the HomeCare Range.
If you're an existing customer, this section summarises the changes to the HomeCare Range product terms and conditions
    • Added a new section 5.4 setting out circumstances in which we will agree to replace your boiler under your HomeCare agreement.
    • Added section 5.11 TimeChoice™
    • Wording removed concerning discounts on certain central heating products applying only after two years if no repairs, as we will in future be applying discounts in wider circumstances
    • Increase in the cancellation charges and change in cancellation wording in section 5.13
    • Period within which First Service normally conducted(section 5.5) changed to 42 days to account for introduction of 14 day customer cancellation right
    • Amended section 5.7 requiring that you request a Maintenance Inspection™ for some electrical and plumbing options
    • Similar Service section 6.5 amended concerning customers transferring to insurance products
    • New Insurance products with enhanced features have been added to our HomeCare Range.
Introduction to your Terms & Conditions

Your agreements under the HomeCare Range

Most of our customers hold their products as part of a HomeCare package (HomeCare 100-400). A HomeCare package may be composed of "Care" products and/or "Cover" (insurance) products. You may also hold your "Care" or "Cover" HomeCare products individually i.e. not as part of a package of products.
Your statement will confirm the products and any HomeCare package you hold.
You can then look up each of your products on the below table overleaf to be directed to where the benefits and other terms and conditions that apply to your products are set out on this page.
Each of your products is a separate agreement with a British Gas company; however, they will all appear on the single statement we send to you.

I have fitted many heat ex while working for british gas and have never charged a customer for doing so..
The only reason you will pay is if you have been told it needs flushing and you do not get it flushed.

hi egduj, i'm a plumber, get the new vaillant ecotest plus 824 it will cut your gas bill by at-least 20% will easily supply a large 4bed house and give good pressure on a thermastatic shower! plumbers choice 2009!

Good afternoon: a 24kW combi will not provide a decent flow for either showering or filling the bath and will not cope with simultaneous DHW drainoff points. See more here.

Good afternoon: any boiler is only as good as its installation and annual servicing. The OH fits the Remeha Avanta as a value for money option (manufacturer's 5 year parts and labour warranty) and Viessmann (same P+L warranty). He gave up on Alphas a few years ago (expensive parts just one of the problems).

Coincidentally i've been on an Alpha course this week. They really are a poor choice. Expensive parts, poor design, etc.
I'm with canucklehead. I install Viessmann and consider them the best although I really like the look of the Remeha and will be trying one soon.
