Why is our dog wetting bed???

Hi, We got our dog Ruby a hound cross from the RSPCA when she was 3 months old. Ruby has been a dream to train until she was about 7 mths when she just started rebelling and not doing anything she was told.
We got her into training and she is doing well, Ruby is now 18 mths old and is scared of everything the hoover, stairs, dogs she is very submissive with other dogs but is getting better through training..
Ruby has recently started wetting her bed and we are banging our heads thinking off a reason why?
She is not drinking anymore then usual and I have already taken her to the vets once and was given antibiotics in case of infection. We are going on holiday next month and is staying with one of the trainers but would like to sort this problem out first.

Ok so call me dense
But why are you paying trainers, then coming on here and asking a forum of strangers who have never even met your dog, what going on???????0 -
It sounds like the poor thing is terrified of life and is weeing out of fear. What sort of training methods are being used? You need to be using calm reward based training only I think. She may need to see a behaviourist rather than a trainer. You need to look at when she is wetting her bed? Like if there are any unusual noises outside, or someone shouting? Does she have a safe quiet place she can go where no one interferes with her?
She may also need to go through desensitising to get her used to sounds but a behaviourist will help with that. A DAP plug in may be helpful as well as it is supposed to calm dogs.0 -

Thank you for your help!
Ruby goes to training for her recall and obedience it is a group session she attends. I have spoke to the trainer briefly about how scared she is of life and recommended some herbal drops to put in her water..
Ruby has only been wetting her bed for the last couple of weeks but this week has been worse. She dose not like being left alone no matter what I do stuffed toys, radio, washing machine on which she used to like is not helping.
Ruby is not left for long times on her own as dh works from home allot and I work part time so just a odd short day. I don't mind spending time and money on Ruby as she is such a lovely dog..
All in all I just want to do what is right for her.0 -
Have you worked out if she is when she is asleep, or is she going to her bed and peeing on it?
If during sleep then the Vet is your best bet, if she is wetting her bed on purpose then I would ask the vet to refer you to a behaviourist to help as it sounds like it could be linked to her confidence problems.
Afterthoughts:
Do the RSPCA offer a behavioural back-up service for their adopted dogs?
Is she speyed? Could she be due in season? Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!

My sisters dog who is 2 wets the bed to, she has been told by a vet friend that dogs can have a week blader and you can get medicaton to help. So mabay you should go to the vet and see what they say0

She is spayed and she is not wetting when she is asleep, She has two beds one in the front room and the other in the kitchen so once she wets the bed she goes to the other.. I have now taken the front room bed away.
Sagz I have not even given that a thought maybe I will give them a ring for some advice.
We never shout at her just a firm no like we would say to our children, even then she will sit there and shake but how else are we going to teach her right from wrong?0 -
Not very willingly.Do the RSPCA offer a behavioural back-up service for their adopted dogs?
We left messages on the rescue centre's answer phone (they never pick up the phone) over the course of a few days asking them to call us back as we were having serious problems with the rescue dog, they didn't call us back until we left a message saying we'd have to bring the dog back that day unless they called us.
And this was for a dog that had already had one failed rehoming due to her behaviour, so you would have thought the RSPCA would want to ensure that she wasn't given back again.
The dog was fine in the end, she just needed time to settle down, longer than we expected.0 -
It sounds to me as if someone or something has really scared your dog. Has your husband shouted at her, or maybe the children when you haven't been around? This type of fear can lead to fear aggression, when dogs will bite due to being terrified of a situation, rather than aggression. My dog doesnt like the hoover either, but I bought a Roomba which he thinks is more entertaining, and now just gets out of its way. I do think that some hoovers emit a frequency that hurts some dogs ears - maybe this could be happening?
You have to use lots of praise and encouragement for her - fear of stairs is a little strange - has she been pushed down at some point?0 -

Im sure you do which is why Im questioning why on earth you a asking a bunch of strangers on a forum
Would you ask people in the street to diagnose and offer treatment advice for a sick child?
You have a vet, its the vet or trainer you already have who is best to offer advice. Any advice you receive on here could be the worse advice given for your dog, Then how can you say you only want the best??0 -

Easy, tiger.
There is absolutely no harm in wanting people's views. Other people may have experienced or come across a similar issue. That's generally why people are members of a forum. Or are you a member of a forum simply in order to tell people not to post?0
