Changing coal to electric

We are looking at buying a 3 bed mid terraced property. The problem is that currently the hot water is heated by coal. I don't know where to start with what we need to move to electric, what is cheapest to install and run and how to cost it.
There is no gas in the area so that isn't an option.
Some tips would be great thanks. Including tariffs explanations (eg. night vs day or what else I could look at getting) and anything you can think of as I really have no idea. For the record, my husband works mon to fri and I work thurs and fri so for thurs fri we wouldn't need anything during the day. I also have a small child so can't really rough it too much with the cold. Thanks
