New born nappy sizes

Hi all mums and dads out there

Just a query in relation to new born nappy sizes. I see you can get size 1, 2 and 3.

How long would a new born be expected to fit into size 1 new born nappies?

My OH is due this year and we are stocking up on bits and pieces in preparation. We currently have 5 packs of 27 size 1 new born nappies.

Just wondered if we should leave it there and get some size 2s or continue to stack up the stash?

Thanks guys

I would leave it at that for now for size one.
I wouldnt highly recommend stocking up, as you may not get on with a brand. My daughters got on fine with huggies so stocked up when pregnant and didnt with with boys i can only use pampers.
Last thing you need is 80 nappies you cant use in fear they will leak.

i found a couple of packs of size one enough to get to started is ample. babies grow so fast.

my youngest went though size 1-4 very quick. but has stayed at size 4 for last couple of years.
  • Thank you both. We have got half pampers half huggies with all the vouchers we have. So perhaps do the same again with size 2 whilst we have the vouchers?

i personally have never got on with either of those makes, huggies have given my children rashes and leak really badly.

Pampers have never provided a full nights use. My children are fab sleeps and sleep most night 10-12 hours. pampers have always fallen apart by morning leaving crystal everywhere.

i use morrisons, sainsburys, tesco or lidls makes and never had a single problem. no leaks, no crystals, prefer fit.

but they you might find them perfect for you. so don't buy too many until your sure the brand suits your little one.

my son is 22 days old, weighed 7lb 2oz at birth and was 8lb 7oz on tuesday when weighed and is still in size 1's. i had a collection of pampers, huggies, asda's own and morrisson's and found that pampers have more stretch (also i found i got a lot of coupons for them) and seem to fit better for longer.

The own brands are not fitting him very well this week, i bought 12 packets of newborn size with various vouchers from boots, bounty, tesco baby club and the coupons from asda baby event (there is some inside the packaging of the baby huggies starter set)

i think anything over 8.5lbs would be better in a size 2 but still stand by pampers being more stretchy, flexible and better fit.

we are using cloth nappies when these run out.

i did find pampers to be useless after the newborn stage though!

If you keep the nappies unopened in the pack, boots usually exchange them for the next size up without a receipt :)

Edit, we use huggies. In boots own brand she easily got nappy rash, asda own brand leaked and pampers seem to puff up at the smallest dribble.

I'd stick with what you've got and see where you get to once baby is here. I agree with the poster above who said don't stock up - we did and ended up with about 500 nappies that weren't an ideal fit. Maybe put aside the money you'd otherwise have spent on stocking up on nappies so that you can use that as nappy spends once LO is here.

We bought size one nappies for our baby, at 11lb 8 he didn't fit into them! We had to squeeze him into a couple whilst my husband took the unopened packs back to Boots for a bigger size!

another thing to consider is how baby will be fed...my son is breastfed and usually requires changing before a feed, which was every 2 hours in the first 2 weeks. My OH can also use up 3 nappies per change...he's slow and baby wee's everywhere, not to mention accidentally changing him mid poo.
