noise from pub

Hi

apologies if this is in wrong place...

I was wondering if anyone could point me in direction of the regs for licencing in pubs etc. I live literally less than ten steps from the village pub and normally this is fine but lately they have taken to live acts...tonight's act has blared out for well over an hour, and it is past midnight.. I am not one to moan, village pub is part of the community etc, but tonight I have been driven insane, sent hubby over to speak to them five minutes ago, and thankfully at 1203am I have either gone deaf or they have finished..

    Hiya,

A friend had this when a new neighbour arrived with a very noisy dog (much quieter these days).

Eventually discovered that these things are dealt with by the local council.

They asked her to log dates, times and durations, and then send the "log" in to them for consideration. Your own local council may vary from this - but anyway, they'd be your first port of call.

The following link mentions what the Licensing Act allows, but you'll need to dig a bit further to find out about whatever is considered as a noise nuisance. Local councils may vary...

It is a central point of the community and I respect that. I even had a drink in it before I bought the house. I still do. It was a simple question, I don't need advice on how to buy a house. In fact, on reflection, my previous house was actually next door to another village pub and I never heard a peep out of them in all the time I lived there. There is a big difference between rural pub noise and live bands at midnight.

however I have lived here a long time, I am very tolerant, even of the people spilling out in the early hours of the morning. (Many customers haven't left yet..) When it is getting to me, it will be getting to a lot of other people, I can assure you.

When the band noise is so loud it is shaking the glasses in the kitchen at midnight, it's a different matter, I bought a house in a small rural village, not next to Stringfellows - this is rural countryside not the middle of London Town.

Thank you to the helpful poster. I will be speaking with the landlord in the morning first to see what he says.

Contact your Council Environmental Health officer. Music is classed as a statuatory noise nuisance I think so they should be able to help.
Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)

You keep referring to midnight as if this was the height of the noise problem yet you clearly admit in your 1st post that they actually finish at this time. It's a pub, it's Friday night, of course it's going to be a bit noisy on occasion.

The local authority which deals with licensing is your best bet. They will be able to tell you exactly what they are licensed to do and when. Then if they are in breach of this you can call the police.

After which the OP could be tarred and feathered by the rest of the village.

Best option, have a word with the landlord first, as they later said they would probably do. It may have been a "one off" very special occasion and an apology will follow.

If they were lucky they might get off that lightly.
