You have to let them know that its not your fault and they have to remidy it
Geri was correct, the builders are not obliged to replace on a new for old basis0 -
Stand your ground.
We had something damaged by workmen working for another company. The ironic thing was we pointed it out to them and said be careful, they then promptly dropped a tree on it!!
First off they sent someone to repair it. We said no we wanted it replaced. It took a while and several letters but eventually they paid for it to be replaced.0 -
I reckon you'll be hard pushed to get the fridge replaced.
The furniture is probably easier and in all likelihood the company you had in will probably know or deal with companies that do that type of stuff on a regular basis so i'd have thought it would make sense for them to at least fix that.
The fridge is maybe another thing, i get where your coming from they should technically put you back in the position you were in before they arrived, but they'll likely stick to it being reasonable that they have offered you compensation along the lines of its not broken but the damage is superficial or cosmetic, right or wrong i think you'll struggle getting a brand new fridge out of them.0 -
I have had disagreements with posters in the past about whether you should accept an insurer's appointed contractor to do a repair or not.
It sounds as though you have and that illustrates my reason for doing so. You can now make a complaint to your buildings insurer because the contractor was its agent and it is responsible for the work of its agent.
If you complain, your buildings insurer must resolve them matter to your satisfaction within 8 weeks or you can ask the Financial Ombudsman Service to intervene. If you have a fax number for the insurer and a fax modem for your computer then fax the complaint as it will give you a receipt and show when the 8 weeks starts.
If you do it over the weekend that will be deemed to be on Monday.
However, you say that you have already complained to the insurer so I suggest you tell them when you complained and remind them that the 8 weeks started then so you now want a final response.
However, it is possible to purchase new tops and doors for fridges and if the insurer offered to do that (and have them fitted at its own expense) I would consider that a reasonable resolution.0 -

See what it comes to. The fact is the freezer still works, they havnt broken it - it still does it job. I don't agree.
We pushed for a replacement item and we got it, so I would hold out for that if you can.0
