Yes, I think learning to listen also helps with school work. A sound investment

If your school doesn't provide music lessons and your child is interested in playing brass many brass bands have training bands which will loan instruments free of charge and often provide subsidised lessons as well on practice nights. Our local band has just put up prices to £15 per term for 20 min one to one lessons and training band sessions are £1.50 a week. The kids also go to alot of interesting places to play and have masterclasses every now and again from members of top bands.0

my daughter (now 9)had school guitar lessons up to a year ago but as she was in a group of 4 boys not much playing got done,we then went private and she has 30 minute lesson for £6. she has come on leaps and bounds and will be going in for grade 1 exam soon.0

Mine are free too, but the school only selects certain children to play certain instruments and I think it was a mistake that DS got in. He was incorrectly told he had, and then was only spotted that he was there in error weeks later and they let him stay. Bit strange since he was later identified as G & T in music. However the Secondary school he will attend only part funds music lessons and only lets kids carry on playing the same instrument they are playing at the end of yr 6. It then costs £300 for the year (cost to parents), split into 3 installments. Always half hearted about it despite the G&T tag, I'm glad he's now decided to pack in the violin.0

You are lucky, here it's £9 for a half hour in a group of three. I have a friend who is a professional bass player and he said not to start ds until he was 8 or 9, so we waited.0
