Cost of Music Lessons

My son DS6 (7 in June) wants to learn to play the Guitar. Normally the school don't provide music lessons until KS2 but have put him the waiting list, and think they may have a place for the Summer Term.
Lessons are £75 for the block of 10 which are provided termly. The children are taken out of class for 1/2 an hour once a week.
I would rather the lesson was outside of the school day, but do you think 1/2 hour once week is an issue? I think it's reasonably priced, but how does it compare to what you pay? Is he too young? He's been asking since before he started reception class.

I think that it is fairly standard to have music lessons during normal school time - most schools seem to have a rota so they don't miss the same lesson each week.
Is it a one to one lesson? If so I think that the price is quite reasonable.0 -
I think that's very reasonable and he's not at all too young. Hope he enjoys it!0

We're in the NW and pay £11 for 45 minutes one to one.
Also, I don't think he's too young at all. Children should be encouraged when they show an interest in something, particularly when it's something beneficial like music.0 -
My DD started the guitar in year 3. We currently pay £16 per term (weekly half hour lesson, taken out of class with 6 or so other children). The teacher comes in one day a week and he probably teaches 50+ kids over the course of the day.0

I started to learn the piano when I was six, so he's definitely not too young - in fact, when it comes to learning a musical instrument, the younger the better! I also have had plenty of music lessons in school time - from the ages of 14 to 17, I had bassoon lessons through school - and my education definitely didn't suffer as a result. So, definitely go for it

If it's a one-to-one lesson, or at a pinch lessons in groups of two then I'd say £7.50 a lesson is reasonable. Bear in mind that private one-to-one music lessons will typically cost £10-£15 for half an hour.0

They are 1-2-1 lessons. Apparently they are sending me an information pack, so no doubt i'll have more questions. Thanks folks."On behalf of teachers, I'd like to dedicate this award to Michael Gove and I mean dedicate in the Anglo Saxon sense which means insert roughly into the anus of." My hero, Mr Steer.0

Sounds like you have a bargain there.
It will be well worth it0 -
I used to get charged £13 for a full hours guitar tuition in my own home, that was about 8 years ago when i first started playing. I gave up with the lessons as i thought i would progress better on my own which i actually did.0

My ds2 has lessons privately and we pay £50 for each block of 4 lessons. Each lesson is 30 mins.0
