My wife is planning an end of year show along with a talent show that is open to all!
We are in Turkey but wonder if anyone has any ideas for prises and sponsorships--we are an English school that has a music and drama school running--we have 200 students of our own but will open it up to anyone for the talent competition--we can get access to local tv stations and have professional producers--also we have celebrity judges lined up--we will charge a small fee to each act to cover the theatre hire!--any inginious british ideas???we need to stand out to promote further growth of the business

Charging kids to perform. Personally, I think that's disgraceful.Estate Agent, Web Designer & All Round Geek!0

its standard practice out here and well accepted--its a large theatre with full facilities . the charge just covers the production there is never a profit on these events--only the entrants in the competition will be charged and they are going for a prizes which could be quite significant--ie two weeks free accomodation and tutorial in a uk college during the summer.mfw'11 No68- 55k mortgage İO--little to nothing saved! i must do better.0

I assume you are then affiliated to a UK college if you are able to offer such a "prize".
What happens if you don't make enough money? Who's liable?Estate Agent, Web Designer & All Round Geek!0 -
of course we will negotiate a deal--we are affiliated to it and often send them students -we will promote their business prominmently at the show--its 5 minutes walk from my home in the uk and a market leader in the uk.mfw'11 No68- 55k mortgage İO--little to nothing saved! i must do better.0

If you're affiliated then why do you need to negotiate a deal?
This just sounds like a scam to rip parents off with a lot of promises on the never ever.Estate Agent, Web Designer & All Round Geek!0 -
you talk roloks--our business turns over 100s of thousands and we have a steady stream of placements with bournemouth's premier school the anglo continental-when you stop counting pennies to pay for your beer i suggest you contemplate keeping your negative useless comments to yourself!
-the business side is all accounted for and i was just looking for imaginative ideas for kids using the British sense !mfw'11 No68- 55k mortgage İO--little to nothing saved! i must do better.0 -

Yes, I see what you mean, on your other thread, just inane thickie nastiness in some of these here comments. Just disaffected unintelligent twerps sniping and sneering. Yes, that's pithpoor. I'm sorry that your very positive thread here has been abused in that manner. More power to you and your wife's elbows.
Ok, practical suggestions. Well, actually, I can't particularly think of anything right now but I used to run a video and record label for many years so I did a lot of arts stuff and lots of different stuff and some of it with young people so I'll have a think and if I can think of something practical and doable and nice that might be worth suggesting to add to the mix then I'll pop back.
Yes, now I've read this appalling low level idiocy I see more about what you mean and what you're referring to on your other thread. Yes, it's just not good enough, is it. You would have thought that people wouldn't be so miserable and negative and crass and just downright stupid, wouldn't you. Yes, disappointing.
Anyway, don't let it annoy you, what you and your wife are doing is very good and that's what matters and counts. So, well done both of you and everyone else involved.
Yes, I might be back later. Otherwise, good luck, and, once more, well done and don't let the wrong'uns bother you.0 -
Ok, here’s some ideas. Hope these help your decision making and thinking.
Well, perhaps it depends on how much time and how much resources are available. But possibly you could break it down into :
singing solo
singing duo/group
instrument solo
instrument duo/group
comedy/acting a sketch solo
comedy/acting a sketch duo/group
Dance solo
Dance duo/group
Speciality act/novelty act : for any kids who do gymnastics, circus, carnival procession costume type stuff, card tricks and magic, reading out poetry, reading out a speech or some prose, and either their own poetry or prose and or material written by other people, and such like.
And maybe there might even be one or two kids who do performance art or experimental stuff that also wouldn’t particularly fit into any of the other categories.
It would be nice to be ready to cater for anything that the kids want and speciality/novelty can cover anything that doesn’t fit into the other categories.
Of course, when it comes down to it, there may not be any kids who do anything that counts as speciality/novelty, sure, that’s fine. But it would be good to at least have offered it, in case.
That covers a lot. I would have thought that most kids would find at least one or two of those categories of interest and doable.0 -
These shows attract some pretty ghastly acts (parents who think their angels can sing, etc), so maybe pre-screen a bit?
Also, wrt charging entrants, the other model is charge for tickets, and every parent pays to see their kids...maybe you have both going though, which is fine.
How about a live speed-painting or speed clay modelling or similar? Something a bit different and would appeal to different kids maybe?0 -
