That's quite a paradox for me, as cooking from scratch relaxes me. I find it therapeutic. There are, however, some times when I really don't want to cook or just don't have time to. That's where homemade ready meals come in handy for me. I play a little bit "technophobe scared of microwave" and get DH to reheat stuff telling him he's the tech expert ;) He doesn't mind, and I get a nice easy tea. I still have to do the washing up, but it's a start. Save the plastic trays that ready meals come in and put your own meals into it.

    A meal that goes ping
    Does make the heart sing
At the end of a long hard day.
But the kind I do like
    Is a homemade delight
Frozen and cooked by a 'wave ;)

    Wow, sudden poetic streak.

  • I've been really bad for it recently, I think it's going from unemployment to working full time - and now spring is rolling round my OH (who is self employed) has more money to spare too, so we've been "treating" ourselves to ready meals and takeaways - not feeling too healthy about it though, think I'll next be "treating" myself to a gym membership! I am definitely the cook of the house, but when I was very ill with flu it was lovely getting someone else to make food for me, made it much easier to eat even though I didn't feel like eating! I'm slowly teaching OH to cook (mostly how to do things like pasta/rice/potatoes, and the real basics of food - he knew nothing when we moved in together) and love getting the occasional "you sit down, honey, I'll cook for you tonight!".

Also, one last hint - when doing my meal plans I always take note of when we're working or busy or whatever we've got planned, and can mealplan the big effort meals/batch cooking for days when I'm not busy, and easy food for after 12 hour shifts!

If you were to batch cook you could have a home made meal ready in the freezer. :)

I don't usually get fed up of cooking from scratch but I do sometimes suffer from pure bone-idleness. It's at times like that when I reach for the batch-cooked soup in the fridge and make some toast.

We do tend to have a day off, not necessarily every week where we have a ready meal or takeaway. Done it a bit more recently as OH got back into work and as he is working long hours sorting the baby and the 3 older ones (12,7 and 3) can leave little time to bake/cook. Plus this week had a costume to make for school, and my sewing mc packed up doh-sewing by hand is a bit long winded lol. Had atakeaway last week and having a dominos ( with mse code of course) for the kids tonight.

Sunday night is lazy day in my house because we often spend the day outside and come back at tea time hungry. So I put some breaded chicken under the grill, then drop then in a wrap, large dollop of Dorito sauce over it, fold the wrap and that's dinner ready
    Keep calm and carry on

Lazy days are what the pasta bake was invented for. Some pasta, a tin of tuna, a jar of sauce and some grated cheese. Takes minutes to prepare.

Simple answer to that one - yes! I hate cooking, but I have to do it because of cost, and also because we are vegan so there's no option. If I could afford to hire a chef I would :D

Usually cook from scratch, but somertimes I batch cook using the slow cooker and freeze some so I have a casserole or savory mince, bolognase sauce in the freezer. To-night I didnt feel like cooking so the kids persuaded me to get fish and chips I didnt need much persuading though.
