Do you ever get fed up cooking from scratch?

Options
As a rule i enjoy cooking,im not much of a baker, make bread and banana loaf in the breadmachine, but i get a sense of satisfaction from cooking up healthy nutritional meals for my family.
However twice a week OH has to cook for himself and 2 girls when im at work..he cant cook,so this is when they have frozen breaded fish portions, oven chips and canned peas type dinners....and this is what ive started craving after:eek:...
I dunno if its cos i just want someone to cook for me for a change,or if im bored with the same old food, stews, casseroles, roast chicken/silverside etc etc,or if im getting lazy;)...but sometimes i imagine it must be nice to sit down to a birds eye frozen "whatever" and a big plate of oven chips,or a prepacked curry with a bag of microwave rice.:rotfl:
Anyhow compromise today is homemade mince pies(using shop bought ready rolled shortcrust pastry...im rebelling today;))
back to normal tomorrow,im gonna try the hairy bikers potato/cauliflower curry recipe from the great british food revival.

I was about to sya the same thing. Make one of your healthy meals for them, for the fridge, per week which OH can microwave to his heart's content, and then one night a week you can have the fish and chips or whatever?

    YEAH!!!!

Hence we pop a lazy day in here and there, and do allow ourselves the odd take-away, normally a chippy which comes in under £10 for the 3 of us!

I always have some fish fingers, some Birds Eye battered fish portions (bought when they're on offer) and some frozen chips in the freezer for days when I really just can't be bothered or fancy something like that. We had battered fish portions with chips and tinned mushy peas on Wednesday for dinner and I thoroughly enjoyed it, the chips were home-made though. :p

OH and I like stews and things like liver & onions but my DD hates them so if we're having something like that I'll stick a tray of fish fingers & chips in the oven for her.

Thanks guys,i never thought about a "lazy day meal",just for myself...i think because they have to eat 2 processed type dinners a week when im working late,i feel guilty about doing the same when im at home, but i could still "treat" myself(if thats the word),once a week...a fish finger sandwich with a bagged salad is particulary appealing at the moment.:rotfl:

    I've been Money Tipped!
Every now and again a little of what yu fancy does you good (And I can think of a lot worse than a fishfinger sandwich with salad!). BUT as well as having a relaxed eating day how about reviewing what you are cooking. there are very few things we eat year round.

I've started to feel the same way lately but I'm putting it down to it not quite being the end of winter and not quite the start of spring. I'm hankering after lighter food. If you feel like eating a Birds Eye ready meal, then have one :D On the very odd occassion I've given in and ate one, I've found the thought of one is much nicer than the experience.

I've cooked for my lot for years but if I gave the kids the choice, 2 would choose a ready meal, instant noodles () or some processed 'something'. I guess it's about balance. I do my meal plan and try to give myself 2 free days from making dinner. On those days I try to pick something I've already made and frozen so OH just needs to reheat it (night off tonight and it's HM kebab, just needs sliced and reheated) or he makes pasta bake, which he started making last year and has now perfected.

All that said, I've not long since told OH that I really fancy going to a carvery for lunch sometime soon. Just because I'll be able to eat a reasonably tasty roast dinner with all the trimmings, the kids can have the processed turkey steaks they love so much for their dinner and I'll remember that no carvery cooks as good as me, until next time I get fed up ;)

Because of dietary restrictions I have to make everything from scratch (including bread)!

It drives me potty TBH, I have fish fingers for the boys to make themselves when I cannot be bothered to cook... and i'll have scrambled eggs.

My solution is to add 1 or 2 meals a week which last 2 days each (hence only reheating!) and to bulk make a lot (ie. an extra meal for the freezer)!

I have 'pot luck' every couple of weeks. And I have 'takeaway' night sometimes (like tonight) where I maranaded the chicken and preped everything yesterday... tonight I just cook it fast and serve (faster then walking to the kebab shop).

Burgers is the other one...., I make patties and freeze... takes 5-10 minutes to cook it and build a burger!

Oh and when I make pizza I make 6 portions of dough and freeze.... took me 5 minutes to build a pizza last night (even the cheese was grated from the freezer). Sometimes I make the pizza then freeze so it can go in the oven frozen on a 'lazy' night!

Before my health issues I used to have the odd takeaway or shop bought pizza.

I think life is about variation x

We're in the middle of decorating the kitchen, its only small but seems to be taking forever, cooking is probably my hobby(as well as a necessity),i just seem to have lost my mojo:shocked:,probably due to a combination of being in a bit of a guddle, and cooking/eating the same old standbys...hopefully once the kitchen is finished(this weekend "allegedly"),and we get our new freezer(19th),and i can start ordering my meat packs and get back to meal planning il be happy slaving over a hot stove once again;)
